Trailer Rocking

I have a 2004 335 RLBS TT. It is 35'5" overall in length. I have noticed that the trailer does bounce around a lot even with the stabilizers down. I have added the wheel chocks between the tires, but have not noticed a great deal of improvement. When I searched the website for this problem I found that a few 5er owners have discussed this problem, but I did not see anyone with a TT with this problem. Is this a common problem with longer trailers or is it just a problem with my coach. Please share some advice on how to correct this problem. I have thought about adding additional stabilizer jacks near the wheels and wonder if this would be beneficial. Thanks in advance.

Well we have a TT 32'6 overall..never had that problem. We have noticed that you need to get just the right pressure on the jacks or it will be unstable.I get the jacks firmly on the ground them maybe another 1/2 turn. If it still rocks....wellll...

What kind of wheel chocks are you using???For us any way it made a BIG difference when we changed out to "Rotochoks"

I have a pair of the "chock & locks" I purchased from Camping World. I looked at the Rotochoks online. It looks intriguing. How do they work differently than the chock and locks?

You may want to check the pressure in your tires. They sure need to be tight as well as the stabilizers. I'm sure you're level R-R & F_B

I have a set of roto-chalks and they are great but i have found that if i set them upon arrival i need to adfust them tighter when the tires cool. makes a lot of difference.

when i had a travel trailer i use to put jacks under the frame. two up towards the front of the frame near where the tongue angles off and two at the rear of the frame. this stopped all of the movement. I did not try to raise the trailer, just make the jacks very snug. I did not use any chocks or wheel locks.
hope this helps.

Steve, the longer trailers seem to be more prone to this than the shorter ones we've had in the past. But I don't know if they are all that way.

We added scissor jacks behind the rear wheels. That seems to totally stop the up and down motion. But the fore-aft-side-to-side movement we've never totally eliminated. Besides landing gear, rear stabilizers, and the scissor jacks we also sometimes use a kingpin stabilizer (have tried both 2-leg and 3-leg) but still have some movement. We have had more trouble with movement in the past couple of months. I don't know if there's something we're doing wrong but we're trying everything we can think of.

We also use the BAL between wheel chocks (the screw tight kind rather than the lever kind) and those do help but don't eliminate it. I assume the rotochocks are very similar in performance.

After 29 months of fulltiming, most of the time we just live with it. Every once in awhile it annoys me enough I go out and redo all the stabilizers. It never helps much though.

Steve,
Try this if you're not already doing it. After leveling L-R, Lower the front about a 1/3 to 1/2 bubble past level, take your rear jacks down firm, now raise the front back to level and then run down the front jacks firm. That should take a lot of the "springyless" out of the TT because you removing a fair amount of weight off the springs/axles/tires. Each trailer is different so experiment with how far below level you take the tongue. Also watch your L-R level after you run your slides out. You may want to start just a tad high on the slide side to counter the weight and balance after you run out the slides. I use a little piece of 1/4" plywood under the slide side tires. The wheel chocks will help more with the front-to-back movement more than the bounce. Anyway it seems to have worked for us.
