Just Trying To Help?

Selling my Reese Elite Slider 16K hitch on Craig's List and a female calls from an hour away. She asked some questions and decides to driver over the take a look.

When she and her husband get here I notice they are in a older 1/2 ton Chevy short bed. We look the hitch over and I answer their questions. The male says it will be going in the 1/2 ton. I ask how big the fiver is they will be pulling and he proudly says "it is only 5,800 pounds".

I tell him that my hitch is rated for 16,000 pounds and it would be a high end hitch for his application. I also ask him if he knows how much actual loaded pin weight will be on his truck. He admits they are newbies to the whole RV thing and doesn't have a clue.

He tires to lowball my price and I stick to $700 cash. They said they were heading over to the local RV dealer (less than a mile away) and see about having my hitch installed.

I never see them or hear from them again.

Now I am wondering if the dealer has sold them something, or has the dealer convinced them that they probably need a bigger TV. I am also wondering if I should have tried to be more helpful and educate them more.

It's always hard for me to not help people. I think you did the right thing, they just have the wrong set up. My guess would be the dealer sold they a used piece of junk they had lying around, after all, they sold them the 5ver when they shouldn't have also.

I think you did just fine. if there was a problem it was with them not knowing what they are doing. They were the one in charge of this and they did what they thought was right

I think you did just fine, good on ya! I also try to help people out like that when I can (with known facts and not opinion).
