Travel guide books for RVers

We are the proud owners of a beautiful 2009 Anniversary Edition 3400RL, which arrived this spring. We are very anxious to use it. (Prior to this, we owned a used Class C, so the 3400RL is a major leap up!). We have only had our 5er out once... a short weekend trip. Fuel prices and family health issues will keep us close to home this year. Ultimately my husband wants to spend at least a month fishing in Texas each winter (yes, I, the wife, will be along) and we both want to spend at least a month in Alaska each summer. We are very familiar with Alaska and traveling the AK Hwy., as we operated our own motorcoach tour business for 18 years, and for 12 straight years, took tour groups to that phenomenal state. There are many other places that we would like to visit in the US and Canada, however, our years in the motorcoach tour business have taught us that there are attractions, roads, parking lots, etc., where anything longer than 35 feet is not only not welcome but will not fit. Some RVing patrons of ours told us to get "The Next Exit", which we did, and it looks helpful, however, we are looking for one or two good guide books which will list interesting places to visit, where 5th wheels have access. We are AAA members and keep current with their state guide books and now their campground books, but they still lack much of what we are looking for (and we don't want to bring an entire library of travel books with us on the road). Have been exploring RV travel books at Amazon.com, and there are quite a few offered, but without having them in hand to browse, it's hard to choose the right one, or two. Then we thought "what better authorities on RV travel books than veteran 5ers themselves". So... having written all that, we eagerly look forward to all of your helpful recommendations. Happy Travels and Many Thanks...

Steve & Judy, We bought a book titled "1,000 Places to See Before You Die"! It was written by Patricia Schultz. While not all inclusive, it contains travel information listed by state. We have used it quite a bit since buying it. It includes the US & Canada.

This is just one of the books we use, Others include: The Next Exit, Rand McNally Atlasses, Trailer Life, The Mountain Directory, West, The Official Guide to America's National Parks by Fodors and several others that escape me now.

Others, I'm sure, sill chime in with others..

Good luck on your travels and stop in at one of the local Rally's when you can, They're a blast.......
