Chevy Duramax !!!!!!!!!!!!

Letter from GM saying I should take my 2008 Chevy Silverado to dealership and have the Engine Control Module (ECM) reprogramed with revised software to correct the programming error. This service will be performed for you at no charge. The Duramax Diesel V8 engine was produced with a programming error that can result in the Engine Control Module mermory damage and will cause the engine not to crank or start. The damage is more likely to occur the longer ou operate your vehicle. GBY......

I don't know what I would do without MOC. My mail goes to Alaska and we wern't going to call for a drop for another month. No telling where I would have been at that time. Because of MOC, I called a local dealer here in Utah and have an appointment for 9 Jun to have the upgrade done. What a great feeling to know I have the latest information at my disposal.

Thanks guys!!!!!

Got my letter today. Appointment on Monday to reprogram it. When I called I asked if any upgrades to ECM regarding fuel mileage and the service rep laughed. He gets calls every day for economy reprograms and there are not according to him.

Is this ECM issue a recall or advisory type message?

Our mail is "in the mail" and haven't gotten the notice yet. I tried the Chevy site and couldn't fine this info. Tks. Dennis

Dennis, I called a local Chevy dealer and gave him my VIN, he looked it up and said my truck was affected so I made an appointment to have it done. I didn't receive a letter as my mail comes from Alaska and I wasn't due a drop for awhile. Hope this helps......

I think the recall is for the new model 07 (LMM)...not the 07 Classic or the 06 (LBZ).

For the benefit of "hotr", you should learn the difference between "brand bashing" & "extolling the virtues". If you have a problem with it, let me know.

Bigmurf: Had I bashed another brand, I'd expect to hear about it. All I said was "Cummins drivers have an advantage of being able to drive their vehicles other places besides dealers for recalls/tweaks/adjustments/etc.." The biggest problem with Cummins is that one might need to repaint their truck before the engine needs work. Now that is "extolling the virtues", not "brand dashing".

Well drop by the Chevy dealership and had the ECM reprogramed, in and out in 25 minutes.

This having to go back to the dealership is a hassle. Would you believe in the last 10 years I have been back to the service department 6 times for warranty work, and 5 of those Trucks had the Duramax/Allison the rest were gas engines. I wish GM would get their act together and maybe I wouldn't have to go back so often. Well like is good, Love to drive the Chevy 3500. GBY...

Bigmurf and Bob Pasternak, no, I do not have a sense of humor when it comes to this topic. There have been too many times where the kinds of comments you made led to brand wars. Your comments are fine in a context of the brand you are promoting. They are out of line when made in a thread about a different brand. They will not be tolerated. Please stop making them.
