Rusty lug nuts

Does anyone know where you can buy a set of new lug nuts ( 32 ) for a 2006 Montana 5th wheel? Or, ... a good way to clean up the old ones?

Remove them one at the time, rub the rust off with damp sand, very easy to do. Paint them with Rustoleum Rust killer paint. After paint drys lube threads of nuts and studs with petroleum prod. After tightening, spray some paint in a container, and touch up scratches with small brush. Larry

I purchased Torque 'n Go Lug nuts made by Dexter about two years ago. Am very happy with them. Torque 'em and forget 'em.

Just corresponded with Dexter about the their lug nuts. I was told they no longer handle them as part of their product line. No reason as to why. I guess I don't understand because when I was at their office in Elkhart, IN two years ago they were hyping them and they inspected mine to make sure everything was okay. Although I'm very happy with these lug nuts, I am unable to continue to recommend them.

We bought the McGards last year, no rust to date. Really are nice worth the $$ but was about $135 for all wheels. We got them off the net.

I been wrenching since I was a teenager (in the 60's) and was always told to NEVER grease or oil lug nuts. I can't say exactly why, as I have heard different explanations from different sources, but the one that made the most sense to me was it causes a false torque reading, allowing you to over torque the nut without knowing it.

At the Rally Tredit tire ( the folks who supply Keystone with the wheels, Marathons and the occasional G614) offered to sell us stainless lug nuts for a really decent price. I don't remember the price, but their # in Elkhart was 800-537-2925. They also have facilities in a number of other cities.

Lubing the nut and stud reduces the friction and means you tighten the nut more, for the same torque setting, than when it is not lubed. This means you are stretching the stud more. The stud is like a spring, and if you overstretch it you can cause it to fail.
Sometimes a very light coat of oil is recommended if there is a rust problem, with emphasis on very light.
The Torque n Go lug nuts are a way around this problem.

I would call them, I got my new wheels and tires directly from the warehouse over in Lenexa Kansas. They are very good at assisting Montana owners. I had already got mnew nuts from McGuards, or I would have tried them.
