Traveling through tunnels

Is there a publication or internet site that can tell me restrictions on traveling with propane tanks on my Mountaineer? Specifically, I'll be heading east from San Antonio to Orlands, and I10 goes under Mobile Bay in Alabama. Would like to know in advance if there are any restrictions in going through the tunnel, etc. I've run through the Alabama DOT site but can't find any restrictions except for oversize loads.

I think, and I "stress" think; that I saw something about propane tanks in the Woodall's guide a few years ago. We were planning a trip and I saw something about having to turn off the propane tanks while going through tunnels on the East Coast. At the time I couldn't think for the life of my why someone would want to have their propane tank on. DUH!!!!!!!!!! That was why it caught my eye, but I just don't remember what publication I saw it in.

It doesn't break it down as to exactly what.It list a web site
dps.state.al.us Phone # (general) 334-242-4371,334-242-4395 (motor carrier safety) I hope this helps, Bill

Going thru the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel system in Virginia we were only required to turn off both bottles. Tunnels on the Penna Turnpike do not require turning off the propane.
The HAZMAT restrictions refer to bulk tankers and rarely ever carry over to the bottles we carry.

John, I have been through the Mobile tunnel many times. The rule/law is that your propane tanks must be turned off at the tank valve. Otherwise there is no problem.

John, we've been through that tunnel several times. The only requirement is that your propane be turned off. For the life of me, why would anyone have it on anyway? You can travel for 4-5 hours without any power on the refrigerator and the temp inside the refer won't rise more than a couple degrees. We've been doing it that way for over six years of fulltiming.

My thanks to all. Although I've driven I-10 from San Antonio to Orlando many times, I've never "studied" the signs before the tunnel. MEMO TO SELF: turn off tanks at Alabama state line. After all, once one gets out of Texas, the rest of the trip goes "quicker..."... John

John, as you probably know there is a very nice "Welcome Station" at the Alabama state line--a good place to make sure your propane valves are shut off before proceeding to Mobile. Once I missed it and had a difficult time finding a place to get off the Interstate.
