Custer State Park Campgrounds

We plan on going up to Custer State park this summer. Anyone have recommendations on the campgrounds?
Thanks...

We have never been in the area so not much help but we decided on Fish and Fry RV Park on the South end of the black hills for our June trip.

We stayed at Beaver Lake Campground. Nice place. We were there for about a week and thoroughly enjoyed it.

Lots of folks like Rafter J Bar Ranch at Hill City. We liked it very much and will stay there again if in the area.

We enjoyed our stay at Heritage Village Campground in Crazy Horse, SD. From there we visited all the big attractions in the area, including Custer State Park.

We stayed a week at Flintstones RV park in Custer City. Was a great place to get every where to see the sights. Watch out for pack rats getting into your enclosed belly area through the slide ram ports. They ate the wires off our fresh water tank sensors. Sprinkle crushed moth balls around your tires and any hanging attachments like wires, hoses, etc or run a rope light around your rig on the ground.

I don't have a suggestion for a campground but since you're in the area and if it is in July think about joining us for the MOC Central Plains Regional Rally(CPRR) here in Nebraska. It's in Nebraska City this year and we have all kinds of things to do and see around the area. Check out our post on the rally here on the Forum under the Regional Camping Clubs section. Hope you can join us and enjoy your time up in the Black Hills and Custer State Park.

We have stayed at Rafter Bar J and it is very nice, but expensive. We've been staying at Steel Wheels in Hill City. It is a nice Passport America park. We have stayed several times.

When we worked at Crazy Horse last summer we were at Heritage Village CG between Custer and Crazy Horse Memorial. Decent campground but no Wi-Fi and poor Verizon coverage. If you are a Verizon customer you would need to go to Custer or Hill City for reception. ATT is very good.

The only other issue is it tends to be windy on the upper hill of the CG where we stayed.

We heard some really good things about the KOA near Mt. Rushmore.

Otherwise the next best choices are in Hill City.

Good luck and enjoy the area.
