Leaving our 3400 in a CG for 10 days...
We are leaving for N. Mich for 10 days, beginning this Sun (maybe Sat). We have another camping friend here that is going to watch our "home" for us during this time.
My question is: Should we pull our slides in, or leave them out? My main concern - especially after our "weather event" last night - is our slide awnings. We will obviously stow our main awning to protect it.
What is everyone's opinion on this "slide in or out" issue for this length of time?

With the slide awnings and you not there to keep a close eye on the weather, I'd pull the slides in.

Dave and Cheryl, I have to say I would put the slides in. One less thing to worry about while you are gone. have a safe trip.

I am wondering if pulling in the slides might also advertise that we are gone for an extended time, and thereby inviting possible trouble? maybe just a minor negative?
Jim, you can delete any of your own posts. Look at the line of icons above each of your posts. The last one should be a trash can icon. If you click that, you can delete the post.

A 3400RL with all of the slides in would make it hard for anyone that broke in to get to things like the TV, DVD players etc.
I would suggest: slides in, water off and power disconnected.

You were reading my mind.. I went to Minnesota over the 4th of July weekend last summer and brought my slides in for the 12 days I was gone. I left my lawn decorations, hoses, and some other items out. When I got back everything was gone. Someone felt they needed my water hoses, filters, and lawn decorations more than I did. The neighbors across and on both sides of me were watching my coach and they saw nothing. It all comes down to personal choice, but if you pull in the slides, do not leave anything out or it probably won't be there when you get back. Safe travels as you head out...

I'm going to agree with Grant except maybe for the power. We use to leave our unit for a week or more and never pulled the slides in but then we didn't have toppers or have to worry about tornadoes. We always turned off the water and propane. We also kept our timer on the lights on so that it wasn't so obvious we weren't there. I think you should do what makes you comfortable so you will enjoy your trip.

Dave,
I'm w/those above in light of your recent weather. Re. power, I think you have two choices. 1. Stay plugged in and use a timer on lights even tho slides are in. 2. Unplug, but remember to disconnect the neg. cable on the battery. Otherwise you and Cheryl will come back to dead battery.

I would say leave them out if the unit is parked in a really cold place right now...because of the possible strain on the mechanisms. I don't think you'll have any problem with the toppers. As you know, I'm fulltiming in Ohio and we've had some very strong gust over the last few months...and the ice/snow on the toppers. No one out here is having any issues with slides or slide toppers. But if you unit is in a warm place do whatever you feel is the best for you. But leaving the slides out for weeks should harm anything, as full-timers leave them out for months...especially in freezing tempartures....not a good idea to move them in that kind of weather unless its an emergency...my 2cents.

No problem, Allison. Here in Central FL, we just have to duck the tornadoes. Some brief temps in the upper 20's last week caused some ice on some windshields, but I shouldn't have a cold weather problem while we are gone.

You've probably already considered this, but I'll throw it out there anyway.
You may want to check to see if your campground has a regulation on leaving your site unoccupied for more than a certain period of time. If it does, putting the slides in will advertise the fact that you aren't there to management.
