Batteries

Hi I called a local battery shop, here in the Coos Bay, Or area and they have a deep cell RV battery that is maintenance free. My question has anyone tried one? I am not sure that it would work, I had to check my batteries every three months and used two or three quarts of water each time. So I am very skeptical that a maintenance free battery would work. He said they have a seven year warranty. Thanks.

I've used them in my Truck Camper. They work very well but it was a specific brand that my dealer recommended and I have no idea what that brand is. Monty has 6v Trojans so I get to play the water game.

It has been my experience that when the Battery is in good condition and charging system is working properly the need to add water is minimal. If you have the need to add a lot of water this is not normal.

When we purchased our rig, the dealer installed two group 24 Centennial RV/Marine deep cycle maintenance free batteries, which worked quite well, but recently we upgraded to the same batteries, but went up to the group 27, which easily gives us power all night without a generator running, and all this with no need to add water. You didn't say how old your rig is or if it has the modern battery charging system in the converter, which will maintain your batteries with little loss of water in standard batteries.

I own the 07 3485SA Montana and it's been using that much just the last couple of years and the Converter is original equipment, two batteries. I have maintenance free in the 07 Dodge truck and just replaced them the old batteries were still working fine, since they were almost eight years old I didn't want to be stranded some were I couldn't get them for a while. Thanks for all the advice.

When we purchased our 2007 3400RL the dealer installed two Interstate RV/Marine deep cycle batteries. I would check them two to three time per season, and only topped them off as needed, and never used more than 20 ounces of distilled water in the last 8 years. I would keep it plugged in all year long, and never replaced those batteries. We just purchased a new Big Sky from same dealer and they again installed two Interstate RV/Marine deep cycle batteries. I hope to have years of great service out of these batteries.

We have six sealed 6v golf cart batteries that we use with our solar system. At one point I tried an AGM battery with our old converter and they wouldn't work together.

I think your converter is overcharging and boiling your batteries. They aren't supposed to do that, but then again, they are not quality products. Our previous TT did the same thing and I couldn't get a battery to last more than a couple of years.

I've had four Trojan T-105's for a year, equalize them every six months, check water levels once each month and don't have to add anything like that. Spent 9 weeks in the southwest and only had to add about 12 oz each month. Quite happy with not spending the extra many hundreds of dollars for AGMs considering how much work this is. I haven't had the converter even turned on since finishing the solar install last year.
