Mattress Upgrades??
My Montana came with a truly cr@ppy mattress and we are looking to upgrade before we leave for the 7 Feathers rally. The mattress we had on our Alpenlite was pretty good. The mattress on our Hitchhiker was awesome. That was a couple of RVs' ago.
Back in the day, I remember reading on iRV2 about folks who changed out their junko for an air mattress. I've had a pre-Sleepnumber bed in our house a long time ago and loved it. This got me to wondering if anyone has experience with the BearBed. Made at Lake Tahoe. This was highly recommended by some on that other forum site.
I'd sure be interested in hearing from any of you who either have.. or have tried this mattress. Lifetime warranty.. decent price.. albeit, still pricy.

This is our 6th Rv and they all had crappy mattresses. We donated this mattress to charity and never slept on it. We have a Americana Bear bed in this Montana our 06 Montana and in our S&B. Great product.

Ours came with a king inner spring. After two days it was horrible.
I cut down the frame so a queen would fit. We got the bed in a box from Costco. The 14 inch with memory foam.
It is hard to get out of bed now..

CRAFT-GUY.. sorry about the double post. It happened earlier with this same post and I deleted it. The problem I have.. and I don't know a way around it.. is that I have a iMac. When I hit the Back Button.. it asks if I want to post again. Short of closing the browser I hit OK. Sometime it reposts.. sometimes not.. didn't catch this one.

I would suggest a natural latex foam topper for what you have. There is a huge difference between natural latex and the cheap stuff Wal Mart sells. It wil make you a great mattress.

We have the ultra bear in the Montana and the deluxe bear in the S&B. tell the truth we can not tell the difference. we have had the Ultra bear in two Montana's over a 7 year period with not a problem.

We too have a memory foam topper. As was said all RV's beds are terrible. So this topper has been in 3 different RV's. It is something that just goes with us. But I really like sleeping on it and have no problem waking up and if I hear rain on the roof rolling over and going back to sleep lol lol

Thanks all. I guess my only issue with going the foam toppers is.. If you start out with a cr@ppy mattress and add a topper.. you still have a cr@ppy mattress that will break down over a period of time. You will be left with the topper but have to buy a new mattress.
Is my assumption wrong? I keep thinking the old saw that says. You can dress a pig.. but, it's still a pig.
Appreciate all the input.. I'm learnin'

The mattress is going to last longer than a cheap memory foam topper or an expensive mattress made from cheap foam. I have a friend who is a mattress manufacture he has the permits to manufacture mattress. You would not believe the cheap materials that go into mattress. He gets them cuts them up to we what is in them. The natural latex will last longer and be more comfortable than any thing else you can buy. On the other hand how much are you going to use your camper 30 , 60 days a year. You probably won't wear out any of them.

In as much as it is my sister and I who sleep in the bed we had two long pillow top twins made by the local mattress company here in Chico and have been very pleased with them. It was a king that we replaced with the two long twins. They made the bottom corner on one side rounded and we can turn them over and rotate them just like at home. The only thing we had to do was remove the headboard because the new mattresses are 15 inches thick.

Hmmmm yes you can buy "cheap" memory foam but there are toppers that are very good. We have had ours for several years and it is still firm and comfortable as heck to sleep on. No it is not from Walmart. It is getting hard to find any kind of mattress that does not have at least some sort of memory foam in it, so must be something there.......
The mattress were already terrible but with a decent memory foam topper they feel like a $2000 mattress. We have never kept an RV more then 3-4 years and the mattresses held up at least that long. The mattress becomes more or less a box springs. lol The topper we have has held up a whole lot longer then that.

We purchased a queen mattress at the local Menards store, it is a Sealy, and spent about $600. It is actually very comfortable. We had the original queen rv mattress with a topper and didn't like it. We didn't change anything for mattress support. We do have to lift it up when we close the slide. The mattress would push against the dresser if we didn't lift it up.

About 3yrs. ago I tossed our OE king size mattress. I then cut the frame to a queen and bought the cheapest mattress we could find ($200) Then we went to Sam's Club and bought a 2.5" foam topper. Pro's are more room and the best nights sleep for 3yrs. now. And all for $350! And it's been holding up great.
