I have the Reese slider on my Dodge with the short bed. I would rather have it then not. I think you do have to cut it quite short to hit the cab but the extra 10" or what ever it is makes a big difference. My only problem is to remember to move the side!! I guess I am just getting OLD!

I have a Reese slider and have only used it once. Still I wouldn't be without it. May even spring for a Pull Rite if they have a good enough special at the Rally.

With a short bed you will need a slider. Eventually you will encounter a situation when you need to jack knife more then you can without a slider. I used mine a few times when I had a short bed. I have a Reese slider sitting in my shed if you are interested in a used slider.

When I had my short bed I had the slider and never used it in 2 yrs of towing. I avoid jacking the trailer around to keep from having the wheels pivot. But if I had another short bed I would definitly get a slider hitch. You never know when you will need it. I would rather drive 5 yrs and never need it then not have it that "one" time that you really do need it.

I have had a slider in both my short bed trucks. Guess I'm odd man out as I use mine often. Have to have it to get my 5'er in the driveway. I use it in almost every campground. It is not so much that I need it in all these campgrounds but it makes it easier to maneuver. Also gives me one less thing to worry about. We just kind of got in the habit when we depart the registration desk move the lever and slide the hitch rearward. If you keep them properly lubed they slide very easy. I have had both the Reese and now the husky. Prefer the Husky as it leaves no doubt when it is locked in. Jim

I highly recommend the combination short bed and a slider hitch for a 5er with the older style flat front cap. You won't need it often, but now and then it is a must. The newer caps just about eliminate the use of the slider with a short bed. Don

I have a 6' 6" short bed on my truck and the new style round cap on my 2011 Big Sky. I do not have a slider hitch in the bed. I also have 3 X-Factor braces on the trailer so I can cramp the RV a lot and not have to worry about not moving the hitch and hitting the truck cab.

Like most above, I think short bed equals slider hitch. Over the years, I have seen too many broken rear windows and dented cabs.

I'm glad I went to the long bed so I don't have to worry about hitting the truck on a sharp turn. Several times I have had to make a very sharp turn and a short bed would have caused damage to my truck.

With our 2006 unit we had a Valley Slider. The problem is that sometimes you need to slide it back but you are so busy postioning the truck just right you forget about how close the front cap is to your back window. This happened to me and my insurance company spent very close to $1,000 replacing the power sliding window in my 06 King Ranch. We still have the same camper and we are now pulling it with the 11 King Ranch and we have a Pullrite hitch in the bed. I can now pay attention to my driving and forget about how close the camper is to the back of my cab. How much is piece of mind worth? Some might say it is priceless!
