truck bed length
I know one question I can ask safely in this forum: If we follow through and get the 3402 RL, can we get away with a six foot bed in a Ford F350, or should we go with the eight foot bed?
Thanks,
JT

Our Dodge has a short bed. We just put a slider hitch in and so far have only used it once. If you put a Pull-Rite hitch in you don't even have to think about it. By the way Pull-Rite will be at the fall Rally.

The short answer is YES. I would reccomend a sliding hitch (just in case), but with the front cap shape on the Monty, I haven't had to use it yet. My older Laredo with the old flat/blunt cap, I used the slider fairly frequently.

I have a six foot bed and installed a slider. I've yet to use it since the Montana has an extended pin and the beveled front cap.

we also use a slider for our short box. we have the rounded nose and it will hit. the newer style fronts look safe, but a slider to be sure

WE have a short bed 2011 F350 and a 3400 with no slider and not had a problem. If I did not already have a hitch and was starting from scratch I would probably get a slider just to be on the safe side.

With a six foot bed, you take the risk of glass, cab, or rig damage unless you spend the extra bucks for a slider hitch, that is not necessary with a 8 foot bed. The design of the Montana Front does help reduce that risk. An 8 foot bed may well mean the truck will not fit in the garage. Personally, a six foot bed is a non-starter for me, and I always recommend the full bed for anybody pulling a fifth wheel.

A 3500 is a big truck, I like a big bed with a big truck. A SB will limit your options when it comes time to sell it...and, believe it or not, that time will come.

Check out the price difference between a short bed and a long bed truck. That might help in the decision making. We went with the long bed..Oh..It holds more stuff...

Thank you all very much for the sage advise. Thin we're going with the 8' bed. All we need todo now is sell the house!

If you have 8' beds in your house, the house might sell better... huh?!, what?!... just messing. Good luck with your decision.
I've had a short bed and long bed pickup truck. I prefer the long bed because there's so much more that can be done with that extra area. After getting used to the extra length, I'll never go back.

I have the short bed with a Reese 20K slider and things work out fine. If I were to get a new truck, I'd go with the 8' bed simply because there is much more room in the bed. I seldom use the slider because it's a pain getting it back to the travel position. Extends easy, but putting the safety pin back in when u slide it forward is NOT easy.
