Satellite Receiver Question
I'm sure some people are using two receivers in their Montana. My question is, is there any way to use two receivers, to watch different channels on different TV's, without using a dual LNB and running two RG6 cables to each receiver. I currently have a single LNB and one receiver, and everything works great except you watch the same thing on both TV's. Has anyone tried using a splitter on the cable between the dish and the receiver to feel two receivers ? Thanks for ant input, Kerry

Kerry,
There is such a splitter. My Dish HDTV dual tuner receiver came with one in the box. I did not use it but would have if I had known there was such a thing. It is not a standard splitter, it's more like a switch. The directions describe it as a means for connecting a dual tuner TV with only one incoming satellite connection.

Shouldn't matter. They both use nearly identical equipment and even share some of the same satellites.

I just installed my second Direct TV HD receiver and you cannot split the signal, my 3 LNB dish has a multi-switch where you can hook up to 4 cables, you must run at least 1 separate cable to each receiver. You only need to run two cables to each receiver if you want to watch one program and record another at the same time. This info was given to me by a Direct TV installer where I purchased my receiver.
Bill
On edit, with the new HD receivers you have no coax output so the only way to run a second tv off the receiver is a RF Modulator. They are not making it easy.

Not to confuse the issue, but a "switch" is a satellite version of a "splitter", allowing you to split the signal from a single input to serve multiple recievers. Doesn't matter if the switch is on the LNB, on the wall behind the dish, or behind the reciever.
Direct TV HDTV may be a different animal.

You can get a sat switch at radio shack.(as I recall they are around $50) You will be able to run two seperate recievers. If you have a DVR reciever and want to record and watch a seperate channel then you need a dual lnb. Either case you need a sat switch.

Tim,
Dish Network (and Direct TV) works everywhere as long as you can hit the satelite! I just used ours in Yellowstone, Idaho, & Montana. Other than in a deep canyon on I-90, reception was perfect. Not sure the basis for what you heard.

Kerry,
There are two possible solutions to your problem, both will need an upgraded LNB (check out Bestbuy.com). I got a dual LNB head upgrade for around $25.00. Next you can either run two separate coax feeds to each receiver, (this is what I am currently doing), or I believe you can use what is called a diplexor as follows:
http://www.prosatellitesupply.com/SA..._SPLITTERS.htm
Hope this helps, btw I have added to my winter work list for the installation of a new coax hookup that will go directly into the front closet (I have no problem with dual coax feeds myself.) There may be better advice on how to address this, but this is what I ended up with. Good luck,
Bingo

The 625 receiver is one of the Dish Plus receivers. I have one here I just looked at. (not in use right now) They actually have outputs to two tv's on the back panel and come with two remotes. I really doubt the set up in those pictures will work on a regular receiver, be it Dish or DirecTV.

Guess I should have been more specific. If someone with Directv follows the steps up to 3 and then installs a separate receiver on the LR and BR sets, will this enable just one coax as is shown on the previous pics to be used at the convenience panel hookup?? I don't guess I understand exactly how the signals work on the separate receivers.

Kerry,
Thanks for the info. Looks like Bingo's pics are close to right. The diplexer is what I was calling a switch/splitter (not called switch until 4 outputs).
Let us know how it works!

Brad,
Got to give credit where credit is due, Jretz posted all of the photos from his setup on Dish Network. All I did was think (not know) that it would work. Kerry has confirmed this, looks like I won't need that extra coax connector after all, keep us informed Kerry, I am definitely interested. Hope you are around Saturday, I'll make it a point to talk to you about it if you are there.
