3400RL Heating Ducts

Hello all!
I purchased a 2006 3400RL this summer and have just recently tried out the heating system. There are four floor ducts; one in the bedroom, one in the kitchen, and two in the rear living room. I get heat out of all ducts except the kitchen. Is there a damper or something similar or is this a problem for my dealer to fix?

Thanks

Sounda like you need to contact the dealer. We get plenty of heat out of ours without doing anything although I think the 06 has heater in a different place than the early 05.

I just got back in and tried mine out and get heat in all vents and couldn't find a way to close off one from the others so i'd say judging bye mine it is a dealer problem but I must say it's confusing a little because your getting heat out of the living room vents they all follow the same path

Take off the vent and stick your hand down there and see if you can feel the airflow. We had the same problem . There was plenty of airflow it just roaring right by and not deflecting up.We got a vent from Home depot with the adjustable vanes and they reacxed down far enough to deflect the heat up..check it out...

It's normal, that was my question during the PDI. You can get a deflector if you want. It's mainly caused due to where the furnace (blower) is located. The forced air of course blows through the duct and of course the end of the duct is in the living room where it is forced out. You're going to get more air blowing out in that area because it hasto go somewhere because it's at the end of the route and it's being forced out with no place else to go but out. Some heat comes out of the kitchen it's just not forceful because of physics, but like richfaa said get a deflector and it should work fine and cause the air to stop a good portion of it in mid-stream while trying to travel to the living area forcing it out of the kitchen vent. Is that as clear as mud? I'm confusing myself. ha!

All of you said it very well, I'll add my 2 cents worth;
The furnace blower is basically pressurizing a tube, the air comes out stronger at the ends of the tube, so you should buy registers with adjustable dampers, so you can fine tune where the air goes.
When we balance a new heating and cooling system, we adjust some main dampers in the ducting, then go to each register or diffuser and adjust the dampers there to get a balanced system.
All the builders had to do for us, is give us floor registers with dampers in them, so we can do the balancing job, when we take possession of our Montana's. Cheap, cheap...HEAR THAT MONTANA FACTORY?????
There, I feel better.

If heat is getting to the bedroom, then some should be coming out in the kitchen since it is all the same duct, or so I was told. It could like Ozz said in that most is being pushed to ends of the tube.

The problem was sucessfully solved!
I added a small piece of aluminum roof flashing into the duct. Just enough to divert some of the passing air up into the room. Works perfect now.
Thank you all for the help!

I'm going to have to try the roof flashing idea. Thanks ChiefKB.

I did as Rich suggested and felt down in the duct. Lots of air going right on by that vent. I got the adjustable covers from HD and put then on all vents. It only improved it a slight bit. Mostly it helped shut down the heat in the bedroom. That room got downright hot from all the air flow so we're able to control that now. But I need the flashing to divert some of the heat into that vent in the kitchen.

ChiefKB, how much is "just enough" About an inch sticking up into the duct from the floor of the duct? All the way across? Sorry, I could use some help on this one.

See another Montana or Mountaineer on the road? Flash lights twice, it might be one of us!

The piece of flashing I used was 1" X 1" X 6". I tucked it between the floor and linoleum. There is enough pressure when you tighten the screws up to keep it in place. Moving is side to side along the long edge seemed to increase/decrease the amount of air diverted upward into the kitchen.
