Fridge too cold

Does anyone here know how to adjust the temperature on an automatic fridge? My fridge in the Monty is freezing the food inside. I don't mean just a little either, I mean the temperature is just below 30 degrees in there. Most people would have a problem of it not cooling enough, not us....

Wow.....most Friges will not cool well enough.
Are you saying that if you run the Frig on Temp. Setting level 1 that your Frig still Freezes inside the Food area (not Freezer) ?

We run ours on the 2 setting and it keeps the temp @ 42 degrees.Do you have a small fan in there to circulate the air???

Rich,

42?? What do you think they have the MAX setting for??? Seriously, I can never get my drinks cold enough, water or adult beverages, I must just like to drink cold liquids. But on the max setting ours only stays at a constant 30, we were just talking about that this weekend, although it keeps things cold it never freezes, no matter the temps outside. Out old unit used to always freeze when the temps outside dropped.

It is set at 2 when along side the house with not a lot in the fridge..I have never tried it at the 5 setting.afraid it would freeze..Just went out and looked..It is at 39 Degrees on the 2 setting and when loaded up will keep it at @42. Think I will try it at max just to see what the temp will be???

Ok, I'll show my ignorance. Where do I set the temp? The better half looked in the book and didn't see anything about changing the settings. We have never had this problem before either. It's been about 80+ degrees here lately so I don't think it is freezing fromthe outside air being super cold.

We don't have a fan inside the fridge, do I need one?

I was looking at the installation/operation manual online and found something talking about a limp mode. Basically the cooler keeps running if the temperature sensor can not tell how cold it is inside. Does anybody know how to check the sensor?

BTW its a Dometic RM 2852 Americana. Sounds like a trip to the dealer. I dread that.

Good news!! While surfing and Googling, I found a site with a lot of info on troubleshooting fridges. Now I just have to get out the old multimeter and start testing things! Here is the link: http://www.rvmobile.com/welcome.htm

We also have the Model RM 2852 Frig. and have not had any problems with it getting too cold, but in very hot weather it is not quite cold enough unless it is in elec. mode. There is a plastic slider on the right upper side of the frig that I think is supposed to regulate the temp but not sure. Says nothing about it in the book. Without calling Keystone could we get an early answer? Do you slide it up or down? Would appreciate some expertise on this...

From what I understand the temperature is regulated by the control board built in the fridge. It uses the thermister (no, not a thermometer) inside to tell the control board the inside temp. I think either my thermister is bad or just unhooked. I haven't had a chance to check it yet. On the site I found there is ALOT of info on how the fridge works and how to check different things. I think the switch you are talking about is the heater to remove condensation from the front of the freezer. We leave ours in the on position. That part seems to work okay.

Try this: look at the right side of the cooking fins at the top of the refrigerator section. You should see a little clip or button-like object attached to a thin wire. This is the temperature sensor. It should be clipped onto the last fin on the right side. If it has come off, it might well be cause the symptoms you describe. If it is in place, try sliding it up the fin to a location where it will sense the cold better. If none of this helps, call Dometic Customer Service.

There is a white slider on the cooling fins inside the refer. Mine is on the far right had side fin. If you slide this downward it will make the refer. warmer or upward for colder and also the adjustment on the front of the refer. This white slider is the thermister for the refer. Hope this helps.

So the thermister is clipped to the fins? I know for a fact that mine is not. I think I will still test it, but I'll try clipping it to the last fin inside. Funny, we asked the dealer before we purchased the unit about the wire and where it was supposed to go. They just said it hangs there. Guess not. Any chance anyone has a pic of what it is supposed to look like?

I don't have a picture but it goes on the righthand fin. It should just push on. As for adjusting temperature, moving that thermistor does work. We did it on our last several refrigerators. The way I remembered which direction to move it is that warm air rises so moving the thermistor up will make the thermistor see warmer air and run the cooling longer. Later models have a sticker on the inside wall pointing out which way to move it for colder. Earlier models did not have that sticker.

See another Montana or Mountaineer on the road? Flash lights twice, it might be one of us!

After I got home the other night I looked and we have the plastic clip in there. I put the thermistor in it and it worked like a champ. Stayed right in the safe range for a fridge according to the thermometer inside. Thanks for all the info!

Rescue 1, I think the dealers should look at this web site for guidance, the Montana owners know all the fixes.

Why doesn't the dometic refrig/freezer handbook give directions on how to change the temp? We looked everywhere and couldn't find anything in the owners manual. Our unit was also freezing everything. Problem fixed thanks to MOC.

Don't know why they don't add that info. You would think it would reduce the number of phone calls for service. Job security for technicians?

At last year's rally in Goshen, the Dometic rep handed out pamphlets that discuss this. It is not like they don't know about it!

Any chance anyone still has a copy of their pamphlet? I'd like to see it or get a copy for myself.
