Lighting up the cargo hold

While Bill was busy building me a bottle jack axle adapter (see my other post), I was adding LED strip lighting to the inside of the cargo doors. It was pretty simple, strip lighting is peel and stick and will run fine off direct 12V power. I bought two of the 5050 White LEDs off of eBay ($15ea, shipped from China so they took a few weeks to arrive). Each is 16 ft long but can be cut and has leeds on both ends. So I cut each in half and had four 8ft lengths. I ran the LEDs around the interior edge of the cargo doors.

The results:
1. Without Lights

2. Normal factory lights. These and an headlamp is what I've used during setup in the past.

3. With LEDs only. Some wonderful, beautiful light.

Ran wire over to the battery with an inline 15amp fuse and a switch to turn them on and off. Next I plan to add some magnetic door switches so the lights kick on whenever the door is opened.

Robin

Nice job Robin! I do have to say thanks a lot since this is just another "Honey Do" job that I'll be doing come warmer weather. Do you remember where on eBay you bought them? I've got about four strips of the 120V units and now I'll have to get the 12V I guess to make it easier to see all the junk in the basement that's piled in there too!

Very cool idea! I was trying to figure out the best way to light the front basement and that is by far better than anything I've come up with.

Damn, you can have a party in there! Bright idea!!!!

Those new peel and stick LED's are the greatest thing ever! So many uses for them.

Did you mount the lights just along the top of the compartment opening or top and both sides?

Started at the bottom corner, up the side across the top and down the side. I used about 8 feet per door.

That's a great job...really looks good. However, I can count the number of times I've been in the basement after dark on one hand. For me, it looks like to much work for a little bit of use.

Since DW and I are both still full time employed (Sadly). Most of our trips involve leaving after work and arriving after dark. I've done the setup so many times in the dark, I wouldn't know how to do it in daylight. So a lighted hold is a big win for me.
