Installing new flooring

Has anyone replaced the carpet flooring in a 3650RK living room with laminate or tile? I would like to do that with a unit I plan too purchase but am wondering how that would work with the slide. Any help or suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated.

We installed laminate flooring in our old unit. Left the carpeting alone on the slide itself, ran the flooring up to the edge of the slide carpet edge with an inch or so of the carpet over the new flooring. Hardest part was dealing with a couple of areas not square and wasted some flooring material getting cuts right, which would not be a problem with a vinyl product. My choice was vinyl flooring that looked absolutely like real wood, but I got voted down.

Great question, Barry. LFW, how did you deal with the slides and the new flooring? I guess what I'm asking is how did you hide the slide -- I don't know what to call it -- that thing on the floor? Or did you? I'd love to rip this carpet out of the entire rig. Any pictures you have would be appreciated too! Thanks, Tammy

we did use Pergo flooring with the lament all the slides clear just fine the biggest thing is that you need to make sure you clean the floor real good before you pull in slides or it will scratch the floor

At the Annual rally we saw a prototype unit that had some really great vinyl flooring that looked like older wood (Beauflor). I asked the Keystone guy that was getting input on the unit pretty much your same question, as I would love to get rid of carpeting.
He suggested not taking up all the carpet because of dirt and pebbles getting caught under the slides and scratching flooring. Just keep the carpet under the slides with a couple of inches past slides.

Thanks to everyone providing ideas, I'm sure I'm not the only one lurking out here to get info to do this ourselves.

We put laminate in our 2955 and loved it. You did have to make sure it was clean or you scratch it. Ran it over to the slide, so the slide carpet covered it. Don't know about some of the newer slides that don't raise up and over the main floor.

There was talk at rally about putting vinyl down instead of all carpet. Carpet would remain in the slides, bedroom and on the steps going up. Many including us thought it was a good idea. That may be a project at the next fall rally.

Just a quick thought. A relative in Florida purchased a vinyl type of flooring from Lowe's for installation in a park model mobile home. My understanding is that the flooring was self adhesive vinyl planks about 3" wide and 3' long that looked just like oak flooring when installed. Lowe's told her that their installers would not put it in mobile homes because of floor temperature variations. She found someone else to install it several months ago and now some if it is peeling up. Of course she wants me to figure out a "fix" when I get to Florida this winter. Whatever flooring product I was looking at for a Monte I would be checking with the manufacturer first before installing.

I used Armstrong laminate in my S&B home and there was no glue used at all. It was basically a floating floor. You left about a 1/4-1/2" on the ends near the wall so that it could flex. It was just like tongue in groove as each piece locks together and you could actually take it up anytime you wanted with no damage. Actually would be good for renters also. Was an excellent floor and I would not be afraid to use it in a RV at all.

You might do a search for flooring replacement here on the MOC. I seem to remember (memory not what it used to be) that someone here did a Pergo type floor replacement and had pictures along with the description of how they did it.

I replaced the carpet in my 2006 Mountaineer 328RLS with wood laminate and have had great luck with it. It was very easy to do and very inexpensive. If you need any info send me an email and I can forward all the info I have. I did the entire main floor area and left the slides with carpet. Looks as good as the day I installed it. If you do laminate you have to be sure it remains floating and is not glued or nailed in place. I had a gentleman who emailed me all the info and it was a piece of cake.

Keystone is now using a heavy grade roll product. If you get a chance to look at a 3735MK you'll see it.

I just completed the install of laminate in our '06 3400RL. I replaced the carpet everywhere except on the slides. Our kitchen was tricky. I could not place the normal underlayment beneath the flooring or the slide would buckle the flooring when sliding in. I used a clear plastic there and laid the flooring over top. Slide does not buckle floor when sliding in. The laminate we choose came in 15 1/2" sq. tiles that look like slate. Looks GREAT! If I knew how to post pictures here I would. The bedroom was a pain because of all the angles. I had to cut 32 of the 40 tiles that went in there. It takes a while to get it done but well worth it. If you have any questions I'd be glad to try to answer them. E-mail me or message me on this site.
