Fire at the pump!

This would make for a very bad day!

So what might have caused this?

Videos of MH fires show up quite frequently on the RV forums, usually with fire billowing from the rear engine compartment. But this one appears that the initial fire is in the inside.

Where the majority of the flame is appears to be where the refrigerator vents are located. I sure hope they did not have a Norcold or Dometic that was recalled and they either didn't know, or didn't do.

RV Fires are frightening. They go up so, so fast. I am gong to look into an automatic fire extinguisher in the refrigerator vent compartment.

At the Fall Rally, Mac the fire Guy was there to give a demonstration on fire suppression systems and fire extinguishers. Speaking as a 35 year member of our volunteer department, it was awesome.

Fire Fight makes a product that addresses the RV refrigerator fire problem. I bought one for my Montana. Here is the picture of the piece:

It mounts in the outside refrigerator compartment. It can be removed and re-installed in another rig. Here is the link to the system.

Also, Mac demonstrated the use of foam extinguishers. VERY IMPRESSIVE. Needless to say, I retrofitted my two 2.5 gallon pressure water extinguishers to foam. I bought the foam at the rally and the aerator nozzles for each from my local extinguisher dealer.

I carry these (one each side) in the front side compartment along with other smaller extinguishers.

I don't buy the phrase "It can't happen to me."

It was stated by someone that this fire is about 1 year old. Ha! The gas price was around $3 a gallon. But it still is an eye opener. You Tube has a lot more RV Fires.
