We did a good deed today
A little background first: DW has two very large flower pots (20-30 gallon size) on our dock. Since Spring has supposedly Sprung, she has been doing a lot of flower bed prep at the house and has had to wait before she can plant this years flowers in the dock flower pots. The reason is that a mallard duck decided one of the pots was a great place (to her anyway) to raise her family. She has (or had) 13 eggs that she has been devoutly sitting on day and night for over three weeks. Today was a stressful one as DW was working in the yard and noticed a large bird next to the dock and then saw that the bird (she said a black crow, but I suspect some kind of vulture) had managed to grab a couple of the eggs and to Cathy's dismay had cracked one open for lunch before Cathy could scare the bird away. She calls me at work to report the nefarious deed and then tells me that somehow the bird had moved one egg (dinner for later perhaps?) to the other matching flower pot on the dock. When I got home from work, we devised a plan to hopefully return the egg to Momma Duck. I took a pair of cupped tongs to pick up the egg and while Cathy went in front of Momma Duck, I snuck up behind and gently placed the egg beside Momma Duck. We retreated to the porch and watched with fascination through binoculars as Momma inspected the egg, and then rolled it back into the nest beneath her. She lost one future duckling but we are pleased to report that her other lost child has been returned to the nest and is now once again incubating beneath her. We were quite pleased with the results, and after a couple of high fives, went into the house to eat dinner. Now if Momma and the ducklings would just get a move on so we can have our dock back since we have been largely avoiding it to keep from disturbing her. Cathy has to work tomorrow so Momma Duck will be on her own, should be interesting if the bird decides to return. Isn't nature grand!!!

I told DW that due to her generosity, that I was appointing her the dock duck deposit designated cleaner. I will leave her response to the imagination of the MOC!!

The teacher has three new words to teach to the class. The words are Defeat, Deduct, & Defense. She asks the class to use each of these new words in a sentence... Bingo, sitting in the back of the class eagerly raises and waves his hand. The teacher says, "Okay Bingo, you can go first.", Bingo stands up and states "Deduct jumped over Defense Defeat first!"
Sorry, but that's as good as it gets.

Bingo, something comes to my twisted mind.
Four and 20 black birds baked in a pie.
Go load up that 410 scatter gun and make you a pie out of them black birds.

Being a fishing guide who loves to fish floating docks here on Table Rock Lake, I have seen so many flower pots used for breeding by Canadian Geese. Nice to see nature at work, but what a mess on the docks and the noise when anyone enters the forbidden zone. Good luck!

We anticipate this to be a one season event. Next year the flower pots will be equipped with some kind of cover or cap to keep it from occurring again.
