I went through a couple of hurricanes when I lived in Hawaii. You do not want to be at Cape Hattaras when this baby hits. I hope the roads are clear enough for all to evacuate the outer island.

My hopes for safety and well being to anyone in Earl's path. Batten down the hatches, open the wine and get out the cards!

As Of this time is has dropped to a Cat 2 with winds down to 110mph. The media did their best to make this a huge disaster like it was going to be a direct hit. Stormpulse and the National Hurricane center never had it contacting the mainland. The media needs to fill airtime and good news does not sell airtime. Now I would not want to be on the outer banks even on a near miss as most of it is at or below sea level. I remember our GPS reading 8/10 feet above sea level and the receiver was on the roof of the truck. Right now Earl is 162 miles from Cape Hatteras moving dead north at 18 mph. ETA off shore 2am Friday which means it will be @ 90 miles off shore.
OOpps..It just updated. Stormpulse now has it 52 miles off cape Hatteras at 2am Friday.

We just "weathered" Earl. It started to rain last night and it has already stopped and the forcast is good for the weekend. Hardly any wind. The damage on Hataras Island isn't too bad. Now it's heading north toward New England and weakening. Now I can spend time putting all the stuff back that we put under shelter yesterday.

We were only a few miles from the Maine coast, in the Portland area, on Friday as Earle went by. We got a lot of rain overnight and it was gone by morning. Hardly any wind with the rain though. The rest of the weekend was great however we did get some pretty stiff winds (25-30 mph) at times.
