Black specs from ac unit
I am getting little pieces of black dirt, out of my ac ducts ..they are coming from the squirrel cage fan in the ac unit..has anyone ever cleaned the fan themselves? And if you did what did you use. Did you clean it while on the roof or from the inside of your rv.. it is a Dometic 15,000 unit. Or do you have to have a ac service man clean it..
Thanks

We had the squirrel cage fan break last year, and it was loudly rubbing on the inside of the foam enclosure of the unit. I was able to order a new one, and it only took about 15 minutes to replace. Possibly your fan is contacting the foam and is wearing away the fan material.

Yes, I did the replacement myself. I ordered the fan from Dyers. Just make sure your fan, if that is the problem, is exactly the same as the picture. I didn't realize that there are several different ones, and the one I needed has a "J" hook shaped blade, and is angled the reverse of the first one I ordered. You just have to pull off the bonnet, remove the foam housing above the fan motor, detach the motor so you can get to the clamp of the fan. Remove the fan and replace with the new one, making sure it's the same as the old one.

Obviously had the unit turned off, but no, did not disconnect anything, just removed the clamps holding the motor in place and lifted it up enough to get to the clamp on the fan.
