Possible Montana 3120RL

3120 = RV refrigerator
3121 = residential refrigerator

I think the refrigerators are the same size.

The reason I ask is that I just ordered a 3120rl and will tow with a 2020 gmc 1 ton short box. This new truck model has the same box length as your Ford. Do you need or recommend a slider hitch?

We are long timers .We travel a lot and spend 6 months of the year in a warm climate. We have the 13 3402 Big Sky and before that the 06 3400. My advise is to buy the largest model you can afford for full timing. You will be happy you did.

My advice has always been, if you have it down to 2 campers, get the bigger one.

We have a 3160RL, does this mean 0 = RV fridge (which is what we have?)
and 1 = residential fridge

That is correct. 0 = RV fridge and 1 = residential fridge

Doing a search for a 3161RL doesn't pull up anything, so I don't think so in your case.

RV MSRP's are not regulated, so manufacturers can inflate the numbers, however; we generally use 35% off MSRP as a starting point. Bottom line, do your homework and check pricing. Manufactures generally promote that you should use local dealerships when purchasing. I get that and generally support the local community businesses, however; when you're talking literally saving thousands by purchasing from a wholesaler, it's a different story. We checked the internet and found 3 wholesalers in MI, checked with all three and found them to be about $100 different, still 5-6 thousand less than Mr. Local dealership. As far as what things to consider, that's an individual thing, but for us, we like storage, both basement and cabinets, but beyond that, the most important singular items were the tires and suspension, because we put on miles and travel long distances. That said, we stuck money into the MorRyde IS and disc brakes. Money well spent. I do not believe in extended warranties, take the money and stick it into an interest bearing escrow contingency in the event something goes wrong after your 1 year warranty expires. I would also not get the backup camera again, nor would I get the TPMS again. My wife on a cell to cell with me, provides better eyes than a camera and can determine the tree branch overhanging and can guide better. Regarding the TPMS, I've had several false positives and don't need that. Instead, get the better tires and travel slower and don't overload the weight. Others may differ with me, but after 7 years and traveling over 30K miles, that's our experience and my advice.

MorRyde IS and discs were not a factory option at the time we purchased in 2017. Disc brakes may be an option with some manufacturers. We independently scheduled an appointment with MorRyde in Elkhart, Ind. Took a couple of days to complete and you can continue to sleep in your unit overnight while at the factory. Other than active train tracks nearby, it's not a bad experience. The why? is purely the way I look at things. Much like your home, where the quality of your foundation is paramount, the frame, suspension and tires are the foundation of your trailer. When traveling, it is like subjecting your home to constant earthquakes as roads have many imperfections. I believe that MorRyde sets the bar in the industry and while some RV'ers may see it as "overkill", for those of us that travel considerable distances, it's a great insurance.

Woodman, I have not upgraded to the discs and IS yet. May do the discs next summer. But you have valid points and well said.

I just ordered the TST 507 tire pressure monitor when I saw it was on sale. I agree, purchase and maintain good tires and do not overload. I've had incidences where I had no clue there was a problem until someone flagged me down.

We love our 2020 3120RL Legacy. We got the Onan generator and solar panels added and swapped the two 12v batteries for two 6v. We are full timer snowbirds; stay in Washington in summer and south (California) in winter. We pull the rig with a 2019 GMC Denali 3500HD SRW Duramax Long bed. We have a B&W Companion hitch on the pucks. Love the trailer and pulling it is a breeze with the GMC.

We purchased our 3120 RL last year. It came down to the Montana or Solitude. We like the Montana. After much research and haggling at several dealers, we ended up paying 65% of MSRP. I agree with prior advice of doing a thorough inspection when you pick it up and write down everything. That is the best way to get it covered under warranty. The disc brakes are a great idea. One of our brakes failed when driving cross country and destroyed the entire drum, brake shoe, and pads. We were told this is common for disc brakes on these rigs.
Another thing we learned after several trips, there are two grey tanks, one for the sink on the island and one for the shower and bathroom sink. Each tank is about 44 gallons. Make sure they show you where the second drain lever is, its hidden. Another thing, the 12V batteries they gave us (2 12V), are under sized and don’t last more than a day in cold weather. Get 2 6Volt.
Generally we really enjoy the 3120 RL, the layout is great for us. We put about 8K miles on ours in the past year and is travels well. We pull with a Ford 250 diesel turbo and it pulls no problem, even through the mountains of Colorado.

Have you ever had your rig weighed. We would really like to stay with a SRW and really like the look of the 2020 GMC 3500 but also like the F-350. I just don't want to go over the cargo weight or rear axle rating.

I have a Mountaineer that lists hitch weight of 2100 - but actually it is 2400-2500. I run a Chevy 2500 that has a GVWR of 10,000. The rear axle is something like 6000 and front 5000 - together more than GVWR. So my rear axle is right at 6000, but truck is 10,500 or so. Rear axle is fine, but GVWR is not enough. And seems like they change yearly, but last I looked a 3500 had GVWR of 11000 or 11500.

Also seems like most people now are saying pin weight is 3000 or more, depending on rig. That would probably be WAY over for a 2500.
