Auto Level Gone Bonkers

We bought a new 2018 Montana with auto leveling, it worked great the first 3 or 4 times out and then one camp site it went bonkers. Leveled itself and then sent the whole trailer off to one side. Took it to the dealer for some other issues and when we brought it home, it did the same thing. So now I'm manually leveling. We never got any books or instructions except what is posted on the door of the leveling unit. Anyone have an ideas what went wrong, it is a 6 point leveler.

Welcome to the forum. First question Electric or hydraulic? does it do it to the same side?
Is the ground mostly level where it is sitting?

If you have the Lippert Ground Control 3.0 go to their website. https://www.lci1.com/ground-control-3
You can download the manual there along with some video's about the system.

It would be helpful if you would add a signature stating your specific year and model so people would know more about what type equipment you're having trouble with.

Cut the poor guy some slack. He said in the post it’s a 2018 and a 6 point level system! Geez

Welcome to the forum! Yes there are considerable differences between the two type of auto level so we do need to know.

Sorry that I didn't give all the info, didn't know there were 2 types, we are really new at this. It is a hydraulic system. looking at the front of the trailer, it will jack it high on the right side. It will level, stop and then jack the whole trailer to the right. the sites would be considered almost level and it has been on the sites before. I have been stopping it just before it throws everything off. I am about to download a manual...at least the part about leveling issues. Thanks so far for the information.

If you can't figure it out from the manual, recommend you call Lippert customer service.

Lippert customer service is one of the very few good service groups. They also have an app for your phone.

Good luck with your issue.

Send a message via MSN to dhuhn
You might need to recalibrate it. It tells you how to do it in the manual.

Very easy to accomplish the “level” stored position on your controller.. sounds like it has been corrupted... normal sequence during auto level is...
... nose dips low and then raises to level front to back
.. drivers side levelers lower and level driver side
.. passenger side lowers and levels passenger side
.. May see one last level move on front to back followed by success message on Lippert control panel

Simply manually “level” your fifth wheel using a level or level app with your smart phone

Then store the new “level” position in the controller

Some read into things too much. Use either an old style wood or metal level or use your smart home with a level app. Either will work just fine.

Agree on Lippert customer service, my past unit was over 5 years past warranty, had an issue with the level up panel, it would go dead intermittently, i called and they sent a new panel, no cost to me at all, they even followed up with a phone call a couple weeks later to see if i needed help installing it.

P.S. most places I camp, the pad is level, I always manual level, its twice as fast. I have the little "bubble levels" on the front and side of my rig to check level.

2x Team Bradfield, had same thing happen on our 2012, first of the year, Lippert replaced control panel free of charge.
Second time they have helped us.
Can’t beat Lippert customer service.

My 2015 did the same. I had to replace the electronic panel that you see when you open the little door. Very easy. Connected the new one and it works fine. The old one was warped and the connectors were hit and miss. I heard that the heat from sun will build up in the closed up area and warp the panel. Supposedly, the replacements are sturdier. Good luck,

Lippert Customer Service

I have had a few problems with Lippert components too. In the end they step up and take care of it right away and if they have to ship me something it is very quick. I tell my fellow RVers - don't go to your dealer if you're having a problem. Call Lippert if they manufactured the equipment that is being troublesome. I don't think any vendor can beat Lippert Components customer service. A few years back they walked me through replacing the hydraulic ram for the bedroom slide. The guy was great. The gals over there are very helpful too. Their service is tops - they will get your Montana fixed quickly compared to a dealership.

We have a 2017 Montana 3950 BR. Had similar issues amongst many others.

Long story short, we had the dealer zero calibrate it which didnt help, so I did it myself per the manual which seems to have corrected THAT issue for now. I can tell you that we will never buy another Montana.

Hope it helps. Good luck.
