Rims

Interesting thread going on the RV Net Forum. One of the replies states that he has a 2006 Montana 3400RL 6K axles . E rated ST tires @ 3420 lbs , and OE rims with a 3042 lb rating stamped on the back of them. Seems unusual to have rims that lack the rating of the tires. Any owners on here that have the same rated rims on the older Montana Fifth Wheels.

I guess it's about time I get under there and see what is stamped on the rims. When the rains stop, I'll creepy-crawl under my 2006 3500RL with 6K axles and see what's stamped on the rims. My Marathons are E rated STs @3420lbs and suspect there might be that 3042 rating stamped on the rim. With 6K axles, only 3,000 lbs is expected at each wheel and so far these numbers are (barely) above that. Whatever the case, I don't expect much to change.

I think the G614s are too highly rated and some are experiencing some strange wear. My next set of tires, I'll look for a set of Maxxis STs and leave it at that (yup, I'll probably change out the spare to match, too).

My big advantage is that I think about these kinds of things, but put no where near the miles and days & nights out there, so I'm guessing this will keep my major problems to a minimum.

I am curious about the numbers being quoted- Could there be an error in the rim number? A transposition of the numbers? 3420 as opposed to 3024? Same numbers in a different order- JMHO- Don

Mine are stamped 3042 lbs but also TR-6, which means they can handle 110 PSI. the G tire.

It is nice of the company to give us something to keep our minds active...after all, I am told that we have a tendancy to have trouble remembering things as we age...can't remember where I heard that????

Back in 2006-2007 the rims will only hold a rating of 80#, the stickers they issued were withdrawn. Maybe they are safe... maybe not. I have a 2007 Montana.
I got rid of mine and went with a rim rated..and stamped, for 110# tires.
If a rim is stamped a certain rating, it is rated for that stamp pressure.

X2 with Ozz. Lot's of confusion and strange things done back then. I wonder if the gentleman bought the trailer new or if he just assumes they are OEM rims. If an original owner when to Tredit and got new rims they would look like the OEM rims on my rig, but they weren't OEM on that rig.

Mine are stamped 3500 Lbs, and TR6, and according to this forum they are not rated for 110 psi. They were rerated at one time to 110 psi. , but then that was changed back to 80 psi. This was according to some of the members here on the forum.

My 3402RL - 2012 has rims stamped with two ratings. It says on the rim MaxLoad - 6H - 3200 lbs & 8H - 3750 lbs 110 psi.

The H in the rating refers to the number of bolts on the hub, that is what the 6 and 8 on mine refer to. Of course mine are the 8 stud hubs on the 2012 with 7000 lb axles.

I do not think any of the Aluminum 6 stud wheels are rated for 110 psi, however I could be mistaken.

It is very confusing to say the least.

For general info, my axles are 6000#, wheels 3400, and tires are 3042. That's what it came with. My only change to date is to put on LT tires.
