Hwy 2 thru Montana

Any feedback on traveling thru Montana on Hwy 2? We are considering it, but was told it's pretty barren. Not sure about campgrounds/TV parks availability either. Any suggestions?

Check on Alstays app. It will show RV parks and fuel on any route.

I suggest you check the campground review sources and try to avoid the RV parks near railway lines, as there was a lot of train noise when we made the trek in 2005. Also, a lot of smaller towns were almost closed up, so keep the fuel topped up and the cupboards stocked. Other than that, enjoy the scenery and the friendly folks along the way.

Allstay does not work on Androids, only Apple.

Use campgroundreviews.com to find campgrounds. I have an old program that shows regular campgrounds every 40-50 miles except one area of 100 miles. And the online site usually has many more.
Be sure to stop in Havre and tour the downtown. It once had 25 sq. blocks of UNDERGROUND stores. They have one block as a sort of museum now. Interesting stories.

I love remote routes. You get to see the real America. How people actually live. All the stuff you can’t see from the interstate.
I never have any problem finding a place to spend the night. Walmarts are everywhere.

Janine,
Just made a route on Trip Wizard on Hwy 2 thru Montana and found quite a few places to stay. I have been using Trip Wizard now for over a year and has become pretty handing, well worth the fee.

We have traveled it clear across the state in 2009. Finding campgrounds and fuel were not a problem. As twindman said there are some stretches with nothing for 50 miles or so.

Came across 2 a few years ago from WA to eastern MT. No issues, plenty of campgrounds and fuel.

I haven't used that route but wouldn't hesitate to do so.

You must have installed some time ago (before 2017). I had it too until my tablet died. I went to install it on my new one and that is when I discovered it is now an iPhone app. Supposedly you can download it from their website but is an old version with no updates.

Searching the Google Play Store for "Allstays" does comes up with the app "RV Parks and Reviews" from ParkAdvisor.

Being from Montana, we have done hwy 2 from end to end ..... there are not many campgrounds on that route that we would stay in. Malta has a decent small one and East Glacier has a couple. Havre also has at least one

Get RVTripWizard! It shows several camp grounds along Hwy 2 in Montana. A couple of Good Sam's. The independent parks are mostly 2 and 3 stars and not many have web sites with more detail.

We drove US 2 in a 45' Entegra coach last summer from the Big Mac Bridge in Michigan all the way to the other side of Columbia Falls, MT. There were so barren places but no worse than the interstates. There is a mix of 4/2 lane sections but speed limit still at 65 in most parts. I thought it was one the most relaxed drive across country I've had in a while. You won't have any problems with your Monty.

We haven't been on rt 2 in about 5 year but I remember it was a nice ride. If there is service use rvparky, parkadvisor and rest stops apps. These all work good.
