I got mine from the internet also. the big problem with the switsh is it is not for exterior use condensation gets into the switch and rust out the mechanism, I now use the braker in the fuse box as the switch and leave the water heater switch on all the time.
I believe there is a very deatiled chang over with pictures along with the relocation of that switch to inside the RV I believe it was a OZZ project.

We also leave the switch on; We use the separate switch on the switch panel (includes hot water electric, hot water, propane, and water pump) for the water heater, dont have to mess with circuit breakers.

Only drawback with Amazon is you usually ( sometimes not) end up paying sales tax ... Google, Bing, Altavista are alternatives to list websites offering what you want without the sales tax unless they have a store in your state.

David if you are going to leave the outside sw on all the time I don't see anything wrong with just wire nuttings it outside. I put a sw inside the first yr we had the monty I don't like useing the breaker as a sw and all you have to do is break the hot wire leaving the breaker panel that goes to the WH and mount a wall SW on the wall close by and you are finished. very easy mod JMHO.

Our only other trailer did not have a switch on the water heater. Is this where this switch is? What is the purpose/use of the outside switch if there is a switch inside?
Thanks!

So what is the purpose of this switch as in why is it used? Is it okay just to leave it on all the time and use the inside switch?

The switch is secondary shut off to the water heaters, the power panel has a shut off also. the switch at the water heater when shut shut off saves the element from being burnt up if some energizes all the breakers for some reason when the tank has no water in it. You should also see a a little clip that prevent the switch from being pushed on accidently. Some folks are leaving the switch on all the time due to it being and inside switch and not water proof. The problem is by switching it on an off ruins it because of moisture. Mine got trashed by this. some are putting a lighted switch inside there %th wheels and just leaving this in the on postion. hope i explained it ok

David my friend had already went to CW and got the t-stat 30$ for just the t-stat and you can get a kit with both t-stat and high limit for about 20$ at other places. I love to go to CW but I sometimes wonder how they stay open with there prices!!!. I keep a kit and a element and socket in the basement just in case.
