How did you measure the travel? I have been thinking about this and short of sticking the DW in the bed with a ruler while towing, can't think of the how.

I had the same problem on my Newmar with the Mor/Ryde pin box.

I took some of the wife's putty stuff she uses to keep things in place and placed a clump of it on the front and rear of the slider thing and took it for a drive. Then I looked to see how mashed the putty stuff was. I had a 5 and they sent me a 4.

They use the GVWR of the trailer as to what number the rubber is. I think they error on the heavy side. My Newmar weighed 16K and a 4 was just right.

Good question. After you have towed your 5th wheel, go back to your pin box. You will see 4 white discs. One on each corner. The discs contact the bottom plate. Notice all the "Dust" on the bottom plate. You will be able to see where the white discs have rubbed away the dust. You measure the movement fore/after there where the dust is missing from the bottom plate. If this is still unclear, let me know I can post a picture.

Here is a picture of my pinbox. Notice the white spacers and the missing dust on the bottom plate. That is how you determine the travel.

I've enjoyed this thread, as I've always wondered about whether mine was the appropriate # or not. So they want you to see 3 1/2" total movement, fore and aft combined, correct?

OK, yesterday I took her out for a 3 hour tow after replacing the #5 with a #4. WOW!!! What a difference. No bumping/chucking even with rough roads. It truly is a miracle! I felt as if we were gliding down the interstate.

Problem solved.

I am not sure. If you want, I can give you the POC of Mor/Ryde that assisted me. Maybe send him some pictures of your rig hooked up, and pics of your pin box after a tow. He will need the weight of your rig also to make a determination.

Thanks. I bought my pinbox from them as an addon after I had the coach for a couple years. They sold me the setup according to estimated weight. I have observed the tracks in the dust on the hitch for a long time, and was wondering if I had excessive travel. Based on the 3 1/2" spec I think I'm right where I should be.

I was told that excessive travel would cause the fore/aft rubber bumpers to contact the medal stops on the front and back.

Makes sense. I'll watch for that. Don't think I'm there.
