1# Propane tanks

I am showing the refilling of the small Propane tanks for use at the campground, or home, as it is unlawful to transport refilled 1# tanks, and I would not do that..
I freeze the tanks, then use the Harbor Freight adaptor to fill the tanks, with the old style, or new style Propane tank.
Gives a nice full 1#.
(Do not transport refilled small tanks, federal law.)

We found that the best solution for us was to buy one of those litle 5 gallon tanks. It lasts a real long time and doesn't take up much room in the basement. Pretty cheap to refill to.

I was going to refill a couple I have. I read somewhere the metal in those tanks is not annealed. I decided it just isn't worth the risk of refilling. Chances are that they would never rupture, but I take enough chances without it.

I try to avoid using the 1lb tanks since I learned from one of our Provincial Parks that the disposal cost for the empties is higher than the original cost. We use an adapter hose to a 20lb tank.

OZ: Been doing the same for some time now ... learned the freeze trick back in my racing days ... NOS tanks fill alot better chilled before hand. Guess I've been illegal for a couple of years and didn't know it ... and I built such a nice little holder for the bottles ... LOL!

would work for me, except i bought a little 2 gallon tank and use it to run the bbq, outdoor lights, propane campfire etc. Have refilled it once in 2 years. Works great. I do like the idea of refilling the one pounders.

My local Camping World had the 5 lb. and 11 lb. propane bottles on sale for $39.99 today. I have been looking at the Harbor Freight refillers but decided to go with a 5 lb. bottle instead. I bought one today as they're a little pricey at their usual $55.00. A 20 lb. can be had for $19.99, go figure!! LOL
