Speaking of failed black tank flush valves

Am curious about the failed valves. Mine failed. It was a round clear plastic valve with the manufacturer name (Lakeview, Lakeside, ?) moulded in the top. Mine had cracks all thru it and the outlet nipple completely broke off. I could not find a replacement at any RV dealer or web search. Finally found the manufacturer name on the internet, e-mailed him, and bought an identical replacement from him. But when I received it, I happened to look at it just right in the light and could see a lot of tiny cracks, particularly around the perimeter where the top section was mated to the bottom section. Also cracks in other radiused sections between the main body and the nipples. Appeared to be stress fractures. Sent it back and got a refund. Used fittings to eliminate the valve.
Now the question. Of those who have had failures, were yours the same brand and type of valve? Or a different valve?

I did later find a different style vacuum breaker valve on makariosrv.com and am considering installing one if it is not one that someone has also had fail.

Ours was black, but still, Keystone puts the cheapest they can get in there. I replaced mine with a brass one I attach before the hose in the convenience center.

Hi

After seeing a number of posts here I decided to find mine and see what it looked like.

I found the lines where the folks here said they would be but Keystone decided not to install an ant siphon valve in my trailer and it is just 3 fittings that make a loop.

The one from makariosrv.com is black. And since Dick's valve that failed is black I guess I will just leave mine as is (eliminated) and continue to use the external one.

Ours that failed is manufactured by JR Products. I was able to order a new one from Amazon. If it fails again I'll just do what others have done and eliminate it all together. Tim

Yep, that is the one I was looking at to replace my failed clear plastic one. So I will just leave it out altogether.

Send a message via Yahoo to NCFischers
When mine failed, I went to my local RV place for a replacement. When I showed it to them, they said "You have a Keystone trailer, they are the only ones that use them". I removed it and all the plumbing for it. An external anti-syphon works just fine.

Has anyone found this on the 3750FL yet? I too, would like to be proactive and replace it prior to a failure :-)

For what it's worth I have a WATTS 288A that replaced the stock after failure. It's not plastic but failed anyway lol. The washer inside it slipped. Easy fix but still a mess of water. Until I bypass and get an external anti-syphon valve I'll add it to my monthly maintenance list.

Likewise, mine failed in my 3750FL, so too would like to know where to look.

When yours failed, did it leak into the coach? If so, where?

I haven't had any problems related to this valve, but would like to know more about the external replacement that folks are talking about, meaning what it is, does, where to find one, and maybe how it is used. If ours fails, I think we'll do what others have done, bypass the inside and go with the external.

Hi

Because Keystone doesn’t have any quality control in the production line no one can tell you where that valve is.

Ours was under the bathroom sink others have found them in the wall near the same location and some have fond them in places I can’t identify because I don’t have that model trailer.

They are located where ever the installer found was convenient when he was installing it and in my case it was most convenient for the installer not to install it and just put some fittings in place of it.

Or more likely in my case the worker that installed the fittings didn’t know what was supposed to be there and just made the lines water tight.

Mine was located mid way up behind the shower wall.
I removed the entire thing and the water lines and just plumbed it strait to the tank with nothing more than a brass check valve.
Works like a charm.

Timely discussion. I was flushing the black tank today, and clear water was slowly running out of the belly. Never happened before. Went inside, and there was water at the end of the steps to the bedroom.

Now, to find it. Going to look in the area where the furnace is.

Brant - I know there have been others with a similar year 3400RL had the problem. I think you will find it midway up in the wall between the shower and pantry. Don't remember the models, but some have also found the valve under the bathroom vanity. Look there first. Much easier if that is where it is.
Someone should come along and confirm it.

On our 2011 3400RL it was behind the shower. I had to remove the shower water controls to access it and then re-caulk the faucets when I reinstalled them.
