Slide Support Jacks

Hi everyone. We will be setting up for a 4 month stay at a site soon.
We just bought a 3402RL and now I am thinking of using support jacks on the slide undercarriage. The dealership sells the jacks, but do you think they are necessary? Thanks in advance for your input.

We are fulltimers and stay at one place for months at a time, I stopped using those when I got my new 3402,I have not seen any sag in the slides whatsoever and my 5er is really stable with my 6 point auto level, I think the slides are built pretty dang sturdy nowdays

We also full time and work camp. As such we spend many months at a time in the same place. Never used slide jacks or ever felt the need.

I would certainly hesitate to use jacks under the slides of any unit. If there is any settling of the rig the jacks could cause damage to the working mechanisms of the slides. With the 6 point leveling system if there was a leak in the levelers, this could cause an issue. It would just depend on the site.
I was cautioned by the dealer on our 08 Monty to not use jacks under the slide. I think I can see why.

My two cents would be to ensure you monitor them closely. After a long drive the tires' psi might be higher, and just like the X-chocks that need to be rechecked and retightened since they will come loose as the tires cool off, the same goes for these jacks since this just might cause the whole trailer to sag a little onto these jacks. Since temperature can affect psi, you'll need to check this often to keep the tires at their required inflation and reduce any sag.

I think horizontal stabilizers like SteadyFast are a better investment to lessen trailer movement than these jacks that can only stabilize on the vertical. If you stabilize the whole rig, and the slideouts are some pretty beefy metal, then I think the slideouts will be stable also and you don't need slideout jacks.

When I bought my 3400, the dealer was very specific when he said NOT to use slide jacks. Have never used them, and see no reason to change.

I remember reading that they are not recommended I have never used or see the need in 11 years.
Just think if you would get a flat tire!

Slide support jacks are a holdover from the first "added rooms" for RVs. They were called "tipouts" and support jacks were used under them. The new design of slideouts do not require support jacks and are not recommended. Why do they sell them then? Because some will buy them thinking that logically it cannot hurt to have extra support. Don't spend the money, use it for some useful accessory.
