Crazy used prices

What the heck? I see three and 4 year old Montana's with asking prices for more than a new one with a 'normal' discount.

I suspect people paid at or near MSRP and are trying to recoup as much of that as they can.
I noticed the same thing when I bought my truck. I bought a new 2012 F350 at the end of the model year. Dealer was advertising $14,000 off MSRP making the price pretty reasonable. Equally equiped 2-3 yr old used trucks were listed in the paper for about the same price.

This is the hot selling season. Dealers and others will be willing to take advantage of those who won't or don't know to bargain.

Plus, they probably have a lot of the bugs worked out of them, and possibly have a number of MODS already done.

Those who try to sell too high are many times "upside down" on a loan.

Asking price and selling price aren't usually the same unless the seller finds an 'uneducated' buyer.

When we were working for dealers at Rv shows we would on occasion get a buyer that would look at the "show price" and say ...I will take it"

When we were looking last year, we found our 2010 at a dealer in RI. I felt the price was high at the time and decided to look around. I did a web search for similar models and found quite a few of them, but all were in the general price range I had found. With a little back and forth, the RI dealer offered more for my trade and took a little off the asking price. Did I pay too much? Probably, but I was comfortable for having shopped around and found the price in line with the market at the time. No regrets.

I know a that the dealers around me have been selling coaches like crazy since it is prime time so I'll be watching this winter to see if they get more realistic. Used coaches are mostly on consignment so the sellers might get more realistic in the winter.
