You ain't gonna believe this one!
So, I decided it's time for new boots for the tow vehicle. The original tires were about 80% gone and with several big trips coming up I figured it was a good time to replace them with all new rubber.
I did my research, found the tire I wanted and called my dealer. He said the best price he could give me was $303 each. He told me to search the internet and see if I could find a better price. Even with shipping I might save some money. I checked TireRack.com and found them for $198 ($792/four tires) each with $112 shipping for all four. That's $904 plus about $90 for mount, balance, tire disposal, tax, etc, for a total of $994. Then I found TireBuyer.com and they listed my tire for $208 each with FREE shipping to my chosen installer. I ordered the tires at 3:30 Wed. My installer called my at 9:00 AM the next day (Thursday) to say my tires had arrived! I had them installed Friday morning. Total spent was $922. I ended up saving about $290 over local pricing.
The part that amazed me was the quick delivery. And the tires were all made less than three months ago........AND MADE IN THE USA!

The only thing that concerns me about that probably doesn't apply to the big city. Out here in the boonies if we do all our buying on line it's not very long until there isn't any place to install tires or fix flats for 40 miles. We've already seen it happen with several needed services.

I second the request for brand & size information on the tires you selected. I need to replace mine soon.

I did the same search thing, and when I finished I called my Chevy dealer and they matched the lowest price I had received. I thought it was great because I do all my business there.

I ordered BF Goodrich Rugged Terrain 275/70R18E tires. They have more bite than the original tires but I need that to get my Monty into and out of its storage location at home. The ratings were 4.7 out of 5 stars for wear, noise, wet traction, drivability, snow traction, etc.
And I agree with you DQ on hurting the little guy. I really wanted to buy through him as I've dealt there for over 30 years. But he stepped up to the plate and advised me to look around the web for a better deal, which I did. I did pay him the $90 to mount and balance the tires. He admitted that he could not possibly match the prices offered on the internetunless he ordered thousands of tirea all at once. So he is willing to adapt by teaming up with the online sellers such as TireBuyer. He in the designated installer for this area and anyone around here who orders tire will have them installed by him. At least he gets that part of the business.

My first concern was "who would install the tires"? Then I went to their website and they have a section where you can put in your zip code and up comes the names of stores who will install the tires. Thanks for the info!

When I was in the service station business we had two tire installation prices: $0 if you bought them from us and $50 a tire if you bought them someplace else. I took care of the people who took care of me!
