Braking

I drive an 07 Dodge 2500, diesel, 3.73, auto, P2, Reese 15k. I pull 07 3000RK. I'm not new to RVing, I'd pulled two other 5ers, 27 ft. & 24.5 ft. My 3000RK is the heavies at 10,300 unloaded. My problem is while braking, I heard and felt two bumps. I adjusted my P2 and still hearing and feeling one bump. Do I need more adjustment on my P2 or is this normal with heavier 5th wheels. Or is it my hitch?
I was looking for a used SOB 5er and happened to find this 07 3000RK. I'm amazed at the quality of a Montana, but more amazed with the MOC.

It maybe the hitch. I have the same hitch and there is some movement in it,I hear it more when taking off from a dead stop more than slowing down

My rig is very similar to yours except I have the Husky 16k slider hitch. On our recent trip to Colorado I was experiencing the same sympthoms. After returning home and getting the 5'er off the truck I researched the noise. It is my hitch. There is a little play where the rear hitch rails sit on the baserails. I actually used a crowbar under the hitch rail to find the movement. I thought maybe the rail pins had worn allowing a little slop but inspection didn't confirm my suspicion. The movement is slight but diffentantly enough to make a "clunk" during braking and take off. It is on my "to do list" to contact a dealer but just haven't got around to that yet. Jim

If you have a Mor Ryde pin box note that it moves @ 2 inches back and forth to asorb chucking, That back and forth movement can cause the bump you hear on braking and take off..

If your Reese 15K was made in say the last 5-7 years and has a side pivoting head, with the fiver unhooked, stand in the bed over the hitch and pull up and push down on it. If there is a lot of wear in the side to side pivot pins, that's likely where the noise is comming from. I liked Reese hitches, but I went thru 2 heads before I went with a Curt hitch. There is no reasonable way to lube the side to side pivot pins in the 15K. They are steel pins fitted in holes drilled in the cross beams with no bushings. The side to side pivot pins are even rosette welded so you cannot remove them for proper lube. Sorry Reese fans, but these are the facts.
