Sacramento to Klamath Falls Info?

Planning to go up I-5 to Weed and US 97 from there. Any big hills to cross? I try to avoid places like Siskyiou Pass (further North on I-5). Older TV and cautious driver. Also, any recommendations for RV parks in the K-Falls area? Planning on at least a month there.

Thanks in advance,

patodonn-
PM DandMontheroad, she has a sister very familiar with Klamath Falls....Margee also knows the road from Sacramento to Klamath.
Oops! I guess I have a sister from that area too. LOL, but Margee has the better info.
(I know she just loves it when I suggest for her to give info ) Seriously she won't mind!

Also Thank You for the info you sent us about our travel to Texas, your informatio was very helpful.

Patodonn.... I've made the trip from Sacramento to K. Falls so much, my car can do it on autopilot.

I have sent email to the "K.Falls" sister asking about any decent RV parks in the area. She & her husband attended the Lake Siskiyou rally last month as our guests. She will hopefully respond tomorrow or I will call her. (She'd kill me if I called her right now at 10:30pm).

Nothing to fear from 97 to K.Falls other than cop cars, and be sure to go slow thru the town of Dorris. It's the last town before the CA/OR border and has some tight curves.

The "Dunsmuir Pass" on I-5 before you get to Weed is a bit of an upwards haul but you should do fine.

Here's some I-5 highway "cams" of the area...:
http://www.dot.ca.gov/dist2/cctv/allcams.shtml

Three good stops for gas/diesel/food etc:

1. Rolling Hills Casino at Corning, CA. Liberal Road exit, go over the overpass and turn left on Barham Avenue immediately after the freeway overpass. Enter the driveway past the casino just before the gas station. Park in front to the right or go back and to the left and park with the semi-trucks. There is construction going on behind the casino where RV parking used to be. A good place to stop for their buffet. Ages 50 & over get the senior discount! They also have a gas station there but we've never used it. Don't bother throwing your money away in their slots.... they are tighter than a tick and don't pay off.

2. Flying J at Corning, CA, "South Avenue" exit, (exit 630), nice and clean. Also has a restaurant in it.
There's a "Petrol" across the street but don't waste your time there.

3. "South Weed" exit. At the stop sign go right and you'll see the gas stations & food joints. Semi-trucks stop here also. Easy return to I-5 so you can go a bit further to take the "97/Klamath Falls" exit. Last good place to get gas/diesel before hitting K.Falls.

"K. Falls sister" only recommends these to stay at:

She says all the RV parks in K.Falls city are mostly "12 months a year extreme low-income living" and your Montana wouldn't be too safe left alone. Better to go to campgrounds outside of K. Falls city limit.

KOA Kampground
3435 Shasta Way, Klamath Falls, OR 97603
phone: (541)884-4644
Not many trees. Only campground that might be acceptable if you want to be in K.Falls city limit.

Lake of the Woods Resort
(about 1/2-3/4 of an hour from K. Falls)
950 Harriman Road, Klamath Falls, OR 97603, phone: (541)949-8300
Hwy 140 West out of Klamath Falls. Reservations highly recommended.

patodonn,

I can't remember if you are retired military or not. If you are, there is Kingsley Campground at Klamath Falls Airport. It has a user rating of 3 out of 5. Never been there, but considered staying there on our trip to Mt Shasta in May. Timing wasn't right.

Thanks for the info...I am retired AF, and am going to check on the mil location there. If it is not available or adequate, then probably go to Rocky Point or Lake of the Woods.

Thanks again to you both..
