MOLD IN REFRIGERATOR

A fellow camper has asked me if I have had any problems with mold when we close up the 5th wheel for the season. I haave not, because our refrigerator is accessable and I can leave my doors open. However on his, the slide out prevents him from opening his doors and when he opens them up after storage, there is mold all over.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks
Diana

I prop my doors open a couple of inches by placing a thick pot holder over the top of the doors close to the hinges. I close the doors until they catch on the pot holders so it leaves them open just enough to get air inside of the refrigerator. Also, I have a small box of baking soda that I keep in the door. If the light stays on (as it use to in our old travel trailer) just take out the bulb. He could probably prop open the doors before he moves in the slides. We have even traveled with our doors propped open when taking the trailer home from storage (mainly because we forgot they were propped open). Since the doors are wedged with a pot holder they don't seem to fly open. Hope it helps!

Clean it well, leave the doors open a few days so it dries, then take newspaper and crumple it and fill the inside of the fridge and freezer. We have done this every season and even with a stick home one that was in storage for a few years.

I always make sure it is completely dry and then shut it and never have had a problem.

There is a little gizmo (I never use thingy anymore) that you can hook on the frig door and it keeps it just slightly ajar and will not let it close. I think Camping World sells them but I'm not sure.
Happy trails....................

It helps to leave the doors open a little bit. The crumpled newspaper works great and so does a container filled with dry barbeque briquets. Both the newspaper and the briquets absorb the moisture.

Clean it leave the door open, the more open the better and use the briquets..they absorb much moisture and are very cheap.Anything that asorbs moisture is a good thing..there are many products out there.

Newspapers work fab! We use in frigs and all coolers when stored. Never had any mold, no smell, no nothing, since we starting using the newspaper trick! And, the coolers are never stored with tops open.

I also leave the doors open during winter storage. Just remember to pull the light bulb if you do not disconnect your batteries. The rv shop here sells the little charcoal hangers that fit perfectly into the fridge to help absorb moisture as mentioned before, they usually sell for $5 for a two pack. I place one in fridge and one in freezer. Seems to work really well for me.
