Is the shutdown affecting your plans?

We leave on oct 19th for Arizona and were planning to go directly to the imperial Dam LTVA in Arizona. Now, who knows where we will go. Anyone else had to change things around?

Interestingly enough, we're working at the Imperial National Wildlife Refuge this winter (just north of there). They've told us to come and wait. No one can work, but if they run off the work campers we can just go elsewhere and when the shut down is over there'd be no one to work, so for us it's hurry up and wait.

Dick and Joyce;at least you can go there. They would be silly to "run you off "as you say. Hopefully the gov will stop this madness soon

Agreed, the National park system alone is losing over $750,000 per day in fees they will never be able to recoup.

Wish that was my only concern. The US Senate STILL hasn't passed legislation which was approved unanamously by the house to give us federal employees back pay. Meanwhile, they collect THEIR paychecks.

Affecting my wallet! War Eagle craft extravaganza in Arkansas next week is attended by my wife and several other friends of hers. I and two other husbands normally stay at Prairie Creek COE campground for $10 a night. They are now closed and have refunded my deposit. The husbands are now staying at a private camp ground for about 3 times that much while all the wives are staying at Embassy Suites. Something wrong with this picture.

Yes, we have had to change things around. Had planned to trike Cades Cove 11 mile loop in the Smokies on Wednesday, but all blocked off. I'll bet we will see other changes in 2014 and 2016.

Yes, that's the really sad part. We haven't begun to see the damage loss of revenue and maintenance will result in down the road. You know Congress won't replace missing funds and manpower whenever they stop doing the damage.

Affecting my mental state as I am so disgusted with the whole environment. Can't say anymore as I'll offend someone or my post will be deleted.

I don't like the idea of being locked out of facilities, parks, memorials, etc. that belong to every one of us (we the people). It also makes villains out of the good guys (park rangers, federal officers, etc.) IMHO

is not affecting our travel plans as we do not normally camp at any affected facilities. Of course both of us being retired and on SS not being paid in November would be a bad thing. That's life...Nothing I can do about what is going on

The DW drug me to that craft show last year, (and about 3 others in that same area). It was "NUTS". Where do all the people come from?

We are currently at J Strom Thurmond COE - Petersburg campground. It is open until the 21st. Apparently there is outside funding through the timber industry to keep it open. Weekend was busy but have the place to ourselves now

Flymutt, My DW's group have 4 from KC and 4 from Wichita. The husbands stay at a campground miles away from that mess. DW says husbands just get in the way there and should be banned---fine with me. The husbands are all retired from the same police dept. I retired from, so we just sit around with adult beverages and swap lies with each other.

It hasn’t affected our plans any. I guess you would have to be doing a lot of camping for it to be affected. We’ve only been out three times this season but we do have one more weekend planned. I guess the new to us S&B has taken up the slack. After being in one house for 31 years it’s somewhat exciting making such a change.

Just wondering, where did you guys retire from?

Well Yes!

After the Rally we went to Mammoth Cave NP - Closed. Had reservations at North Fork NP - Closed and they refunded.

Had reservations at a private campground in the Smokey Mountains - Of course closed. I wouldn't have canceled that reservation but had to due to a Medical Emergencey in the family. Campground didn't believe us and has not refunded our $300 in advanced reservation as of yet.
It's their peek season so probably will not.

We took an additional three weeks to see Washington DC, where we met 41 years ago. Most everything closed including armed security at the Lincoln Memorial. Next, down through the Outer Banks, NPS things closed. Currently at Pennsacola, Florida. Blue Angels, all military museums closed. Back to the mountain and hunker down until this thing ends.
