gas struts

I have a 2005 2955RL. DW does not like standing on a stool and holding open the cabinet door above the ref. CW sells gas struts. But I don't know what size to buy. There must be a formula to determine the size. The door is 24" wide and 16.5" high. It is 2" down from the hing to the cabinet opening. So. I know the strut has to be mounted a hair down past the 2" in an open position. I think CW sells 8" 11",& 14" long struts. I don't want to over kill, but I want the door to open to a horizontal position. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks Lou Gaudin

We have a small door below the tv in our 300RK that opens up like yours.. It is a small door for the dvd player. I could not find a gas strut that would work. Went to Ace Hardware and for about $2 I found a lid stay that works. It holds the door open so you can get a dvd into the player without the door coming down.

Our Mountaineer has a cabinet above the fridge too. I found a couple spring loaded struts at Camper Clinic in Rockport. They work pretty well, but could be a tad stronger. I looked at the gas charged ones, but I felt they were too strong for the quality of the cabinet construction. I think I have a picture somewhere. If so, I'll try to post one.
