Got my notice of the recalls today and will see the local dealer frst of the week for a appointment. Mine is a very early job1 build and execpt for a out of the factory defective DPF have had not a single problem and the truck runs and pulls the 3400 perfectly. This is a big heavy truck, 9217lbs and we are not disappointed with the MPG.Just hope the reflashes and corrections do not mess things up.

My truck was built in early January 2008 but I am getting messages when the re-gen is taking place. One time I got the "Drive To Clean Exhaust Filter", "Cleaning Exhaust Filter", and "Exhaust Filter Drive Complete" messages. This re-flash is supposed to be to allow these messages to display in the driver info center. I wonder why I am getting them already and others are not.
I believe the messages you are seeing are the result of an earlier TSB and relate to the DPF filling up and the vehicle either idling or not running at sufficient RPM to initiate an active re-generation. The messages were intended to motivate the operator to actively drive the vehicle so an active re-generation could occur. A normal active re-generation occurance (usually at highway speed) would not cause these messages.

With the new flash, you will see messages each and every time the truck goes into active re-generation.

I just got my recall letter in the mail today and I made appointment with the dealer for next Monday.
Thanks to everybody for the helpful information. I will post my observations about that recall.

Had all the recalls done today plus a couple of service bulletins. They said it will take some time for the PC to relearn the shift points and not to be surprised if we get a bit better MPG. Mine is a very early Job 1 build.

Hey Rich, pardon my ignorance, I have seen it referenced to before on this forum; but, what exactly does the "Job 1 build" mean? Thanks.

I think it is how Ford identifies changes thay make to the truck. The year starts out with Job1 build then if a significant change is made it will go to Job 2 build, etc, I think 2008 had job 1,2 and 3 builds. 2009 started out with 2009 job 1 build again. Perhaps someone can explain it better than I can. My 2008 job 1 build has a build date of 2/07

On the way to AZ when we got to Van Horne, TX to spend the night the temp gage went HOT (no water in reservor). Added water next morning and lots of white smoke from exhaust, called Ford Roadside Asst. and had it towed to El Paso, where Ford dealer did two sevice bulletins (replaced radiator, tee fitting, upper/lwr EGR Coolers and 30,000 service). Got to AZ and had to have two hoses replaced. The regeneration did it's thing several times.

I just got my truck from the dealer. Took it and I don't see any differance. Here goes the question:

How can I tell that the dealer did PCM upgrade and to what version?
Is there any new label stating what software was installed?

I just don,t trust that dealer.

krvk,
How is the truck doing now? That was a long tow from Van Horne to El Paso!
Jerzy 54,
I got a print-out of the 3 different jobs they did to my truck, they should have given you one explaining the work done. They generated paperwork so they would get paid from Ford.
On the software, I constantly, (it seems) get notices on my screen that the truck is doing something...

OZ,
Haven't driven the truck much since we got here in AZ. They used a flat bed truck to haul the Ford from Van Horne to El Paso, we unhooked the 5vr at a RV Park in Van Horne.

Good luck on it, hope that is the last of your problems.
I love Van Horn, neat place to rest kinda in-between 2 long stretches of highway.
I also love that rest stop by Dragoon road with all the rocks everywhere.
Enjoy Az. I have a light dusting of snow on the yard here in K.C. I worked on a walk-in cooler outside condensing unit yesterday and the North wind froze my ears...
