2007 Dodge diesel fuel smell

My friend has a new Dodge 6.7 diesel 2007 and we were wondering if anyone has been experiencing a very strong diesel smell at times when they are stopped at an intersection. His wife almost gets sick sometimes from it and Dodge has been unable to find a cause for it. His check engine light has come on several times and Dodge just reflashes it. His mileage hasn't been all that great either.
Thanks, Bob

I'm driving a Dodge 3500 4X Short bed, only have 3,000 miles on it and have not experienced that problem.

If he gets no satisfaction from the dealer he needs to get a factory rep. involved. Another option would be to look in the yellow pages for a cummins repair facility. These places work on more diesels in a day than the dealer works on in a year. I find it hard to believe that they would just reset the computer and not cure the problem. The light is trying to tell these guys that there is somthing wrong.

Is this the new diesel that regenerates..If so check your tail pipe for black soot. The tail pipe should be clean with no trace of black soot. If you do have a black tailpipe the DPF is cracked or mal functioning and most likely the cause of your problem.

It's possible that one of the seals leading the wiring into the cab was not seated properly, or???

At night, have the DW get under the hood. You get in the cab and shine a flashlight up-under and around the compartment. Have her look light leaks. If you find any, have the dealer fix it. If you don't see light - have the dealer fix it anyhow.

Also, you can exchange positions with the DW if she would rather be in the CAB.

Was at my local Dodge dealership today and asked the Service Manager if he had ever heard of this problem. He said no, but wondered if it could have been caused by topping off the tank. He said if the tank was topped off vapors could have migrated into the filtration system.

We have the Dodge 6.7 with over 21,000 miles on it now and have never smelled diesel, inside or outside. And I always top off the tank, even though "they" say not to. I suspect something is wrong, as others said.
