What a Truck

I can't believe this. I was pulling out from the site in Louisiana and had a problem. The brakes locked up. The Monty was across the lane when it happened so the only thing to do was continue to pull it out of the way. The Ford F-350 pulled her clear with no problem(13000lb) and I found that the emergency disconnect had pulled loose while making a sharp turn out of the space. After reconnecting the disconnect everything was fine. My point being, Man, those Ford's can PULL

Gary,
Glad to hear your brake lock up was nothing more serious than the emergency cable. Great reminder for everyone to check when hooking up...

Garin1, I have done the same thing only was going around a corner in our local town and caught the cable on something in the back of the truck and it got pulled out. Since that time I have learned to pay more attention to where I route the emergency break away cable. I had a few onlookers after dragging the trailer around the corner into a nearby parking lot.

That breakaway cable is a good thing to have a spare of "just in case".

I would guess that the most of us have been in this situation before. It is a learning experience. My little F250 diesel had the guts to do it on our other 5'r. I finally got smart and figured out the cable had diconnected. Oh the Good Life. It never fails to make us a little smarter. Glad everything turned out ok.

If those brakes were completely locked up, that's quite a feat. We also locked ours up back in our early V10 days. We were going very slow, turning into a pull through site when they locked up. There was no moving that trailer at all. Our neighbors were quite entertained until we figured out what happened.

Garin1, I did the same thing right in my front yard. Now when I am backing into a tight slot I go out and free up the wire for the emergency disconnect. My F350 didn't even strain, what a truck.

If you pulled very far with the wheels locked, you might want to check the tires for flat spots. Flat spotted many tires in my racing days.

Had this happen and figured out that the cable had managed to get hung up on a bracket on the hitch. I solved the problem by slipping a 3/8 inch ID plastic fuel line tube over the cable. It is no longer able to get caught. This should be an addition to every cable in the industry.

Steve, they did lock and I dug a thirty foot trench in the gravel road(we still have gravel roads in Louisiana).Fordzilla, I noticed that the cable had a tendency to hang on the skirt of my REESE Sig Series hitch which I fixed with a small piece of magnetic tape. Man,,What a truck

Mine got stuck on a fire ring we carry with to some more primitive campgrounds. It was a learning experience. Since then we put the fire ring on the other side of the truck so it hopefully don't happen again. The breakaway did what it was supposed to do though. It brought me to a quick stop as I was going around the corner. I got out and looked around and thought I had ran over something. After seeing nothing I put the truck in gear and proceeded to drag the trailer about 150' around the corner into a little parking area and a nearby auto shop guy walked over and we discovered the cable had been pulled out. After returning it to it's proper place we proceeded with out further instance. I have seen no problems with flat spots so far and this happened over a year ago shortly after I got the Monty.

Fords are nice, but you would have really been WOW'd if you'd had a DODGE!

I suppose the Dodge wouldn't even have felt the brakes lock up. It would have just kept right on moving forward. HA HA! All I know is it was a sudden stop when it came unplugged being pulled by a Ford.

Bottom line is that no one was hurt and no damage to any property....only pride. They are both good trucks. Its nice to have choices in life.
