New Phase of Life

As many of you know, for the last nine years Terrie and I have been members of the MOC and have made all of the Goshen rallies. But every year I have to leave for work while Terrie stays at the rally. This year will be different. This morning (that's right - April Fools Day) I called my boss and told him I would be retiring effective April 30th. We will be leaving Tyler, Texas on April 26th for our ride home. Hopefully in our new Dodge truck. We will be living out of our fifth wheel for the next month. Our ride home will take us through the hill country of Texas, New Mexico, the Tucson area, the Grand Canyon and the National Parks of Utah. If anyone finds themselves near Fort Collins, Colorado after mid-May, stop by and have a beer.

I had a old timer tell me years ago the best day of your life was not the day you did retire, it was the day you knew you could retire and if you wanted to you could tell the boss to "Take your keys and shove them."

Frank, in some respects I agree. But right now I'm dealing with declining business conditions and things like layoffs. I'd rather work on organizing my garage and workroom. But, knowing I can "opt out" of dealing with his makes it easier.

Ron,
We met a the CPR 2 years ago.
Two things to remember;
1. Your wife now has twice the husband and less pay.
2. Get to REALLY understand the meaning of mañana.
Good Luck,
Mike

Congratulations. It must be a really good feeling that you negotiated life successfully to reap the reward of financial security. Sadly that dream is one not attainable by more and more people. I'm not talking about myself, I'll join you in four years. Happy Camping.

I know I've had my share of breaks, good and bad. But I went through a 4 year apprenticeship, went to night school and finished three degrees, got two Lean Manufacturing certificates and my Black Belt and Master Black Belt in Six Sigma. I never stopped learning and always did more than asked. I'm sure many of you are the same. I thoroughly enjoyed my career and look forward to doing some new things. I will probably get into working with the Red Cross in support of forest fire relief.

Congratulations Ron! It's been 7 years now since I took the big leap and I don't regret it at all! I've only found two problems with retirement--1. You don't know how you had time to go to work with all the things that come up on a daily basis and those "Honey Do" jobs that seem to take place. 2. You never know what day you have off! They all seem to run together! Maybe now you and Terrie will have time to make it to the Central Plains Rally with a full time stopover!! It will really be funny to see you at the Fall Rally THE WHOLE WEEK! Take care my friend and we hope to see you at both the CPRR and at Goshen!

Congradulations. When your dear wife asks you what you are doing today you can tell her "absolutely nothing."
If she says "but that is what you did yesterday." You can answer her, "but I didn't it done." Enjoy each today.
