The advantage for dual ducted units is either can be ran alone and supply air to the entire coach evenly. Together the air output from the ceiling vents doubles, and you get a good even distrubution of air throughout the trailer. A ducted unit will be less noisy than a non-ducted one, but still will be heard quite well. The quick cool grills always allow for dumping 95% of the air output straight down for quick cooling or concentrating the cooling in one place more. Pre-installed ducting for the bedroom A/C started in 2009/2010 I believe. And far as running both units at night you only want to do that if it's really hot. If you throw too much BTUs out unnecessarily the compressors will not run enough to remove sufficient humidity for you to feel comfortable. It will be cool, but a thick damp kind of air. If my trailer is not below 40% humidity inside I know the A/Cs need the fan speed reduced or one turned off to allow for longer cooling cycles. The grey noise in the bedroom is preferable for us to drown out noises during the night, so if we run one the bedroom is it.

I agree it might be best to run it during the day but I really like to be cool at night so we will just put up with the noise. Thanks to all for the info. Look like it is what it is. Rather have it with the noise than not though.
I still suggest you have it looked at, as I said, the unusual noise at start-up as well as your complaint about noisy unit concerns me.
With a new unit, it is best to be cautious.

I agree Ozz, and We will surely do that. The droning noise when compressor comes on concerns me.

Carole, keep in mind that when you have 2 motors running: Compressor motor and fan motor, sometimes that is the sound of them being a little out of sync. Could be nothing, but I am glad you are going to have it checked.
Good luck and safe travels

We bought our 2012 3700RL Monty in December and have noted the bedroom a/c is very noisy. I got up on top and removed the cover to find that my fan is out of balance. This causes a shaking of the whole RV when the a/c comes on. We will take ours in to Lazy Days at the end of our trip and they have said they will fix the problem. We have found that setting both A/Cs to blow through the vents and setting the bedroom to come on only if day/evening is too hot works well. I'm not sure if my sensor for bedroom is calibrated wrong or just because the location is next to the A/C, but I have to set the bedroom A/C much lower than the front A/C just to get it to come on i.e. my front is set for 76, but I have to set back to 69 to achieve same air temperature.

Thanks, I think that is probably what is wrong with ours also, except ours is not ducted but only cools the bedroom, and definitely cools well. Will be checking it out.

If it is non ducted yes it is loud. The ducted one in this 13 is much quieter. In our 06 3400 we would run the front AC and leave the rear off during the day and at night turn the front off and the rear on. We would run them both for a max cool down. Ducted was a great improvement. They are both running now in the 13 and I am right under the rear A/C at the PC desk and it is just a hummmmmm. remember we are close to everything in these campers.

Ours dumps into the BR and I consider it loud.
We have used it quite a bit since we put it in and we like it.

I usually sleep with a noise maker and fan on so fir sure the AC definitely drowns out all the outside noise and "loud breathing". LOL. Thanks everyone for your comments.
