Still carrying the 50 amp cord, just can't bring myself to carrying two cords.

JUst add up the number of amps that each item pulls and you will see how fast it adds up and will pop the circuit breaker. Nothing like turning the coffee on and the electric heater and making toast and having it pop and out you go to reset!!!

Yes, if you're lucky enough to be able to get to the breaker. We've camped some places where there isn't a breaker on the pole, it's locked in a central panel. So you have to find someone from the CG who has a key and can reset the breaker.

I use a 50-amp surge protector for whatever source is available. For a 50-amp source it's straight forward: 50-amp cable. When I plug into a 30-amp source, I plug a dog bone (30-amp male to 50-amp female) into the source. Then I plug the 50-amp surge protector into the dog bone. I then plug another dog bone (50-amp male to 30-amp female) into the surge protector. From there I run my 30-amp cord with the round 30- to 50-amp plug into the rig. For a 20-amp source, I use the proper dog bones and the surge protector and 30-amp cord. You aren't going to do anything wrong by doing this. Lock your surge protector to the power source (or to the rig if you've got a long enough cable).
