Electric awning question

Since we are entering the amazing age of electrically controlled luxuries (have always had manual awning), I have a question that I know has been addressed before. There is a tilt arm that is available from Dometic for the electric awanings that allows for side-to-side tilt adjustment. Does anyone know if this has ever been incorporated as a standard feature for hte electric awnings, particularly on the 2011 models??

Bingo, I do not have the tilt arm for my electric awning but I can still adjust it enough to tilt it for rain run off.

But I will tell you as far as I am concerned I do not much care for the electric awnings myself. It has no support bars that go to the ground or back to the trailer. This is a problem if you would like to tie the awning down for the winds as a safety precaution. They recommend not tieing down the awning with straps. A feature I do not like. If it were me I would now make the change if I were to do it all over again. IMO is all.

Rest assured that regardless of what the instructions or the recommendations are, that our awning will be tied or strapped down. I have always ran the straps over the awning roller bar itself at the very ends on the manual awning and do not see any reason to alter what has worked in the past. We are actually looking forward to the electric awning for the simple reason of health. Both myself and the DW have chronic back problems from an auto accident years ago, and anything that eliminates strain, stress and movement on our backs will be looked upon as a good addition to our lives. Oh, by the way, do you mean that even without the tilt arm, that there is some degree of side-to-side adjustment?? I realize that it can be adjusted up and down, but I prefer to direct the rain to one corner of the awning.

Bingo, on our 2010 that has the 2011 upgrades we have the tilting arms that allow adjustment to either side. We love our new electric awning and still use our tie downs as before. We just now hope durability has been built in to these things as compared to when they first came out.

I contacted dometic after they had sent me an adjusting arm for my Montana. They told it was perfectly alright to use the tie downs, as long as I didnt'over tighten them and that it was still a good idea to roll the awning up when high winds were expected.

If you have the 9100 power awning the knee action feature really helps in the wind. The locking knob is usless so I tie mine down with ropes at both ends and the knee action still works well. I use my old boat ropes with a loop that I loop over the roller end and secure to whatever on the ground.

Our 2010 awning can be tiled. Just loosen the knob and pull down on the arm. You can do one side or both sides. I use straps, I til the awning to desired level put straps on, then loosen the knob and let the struts apply pressure then tighten the knob again, that makes sure the straps are set to just right pressure for the awning.

Btw, only problem I have with the electric awning, is wondering if it will close. Sometimes it sounds like it isn't going to make it.

Have you read the instruction on how to close it if the motor fails. Don't throw the long black strap away that came with the unit. It sounds like you're in for high adventure when you remove the screw.

As always this club comes up with the right answers. I was just doing what the instructions said. But I still did not like not tieing it down. With all the good info here I will start tieing mine down also. I like what 7.3 Ford does as far as how tight. Makes perfect sense. Thanks all. And Bingo, didn't want to steer you wrong, I just sometimes overkill on these darn manuals lol.
