Sdgood1, I also live in AZ. My Mountaineer is only 1 year older than your Monty and I pay $302 for plates in Mesa. Something doesn't add up between the two of us. Perhaps because I paid $18,000 less than MSRP as it was a year old (but new)????

No state income tax is nice. Fuel is a little cheaper. Highways in the rural counties are not crowded except between 10am and 2pm on weekdays with the old geezers are running errands. If you move, stay away from Reno or Vegas areas. It feels like CA in both those areas.

I should clarify for NV. The dollar amount used is the MSRP as seen on the website calculator without any added options. My truck, for instance, is a loaded Lariat. However, they use the base F350 regular cab XL 2WD that had an MSRP of about $33000. That's the basis they used for the registration fees. The MSRP on the Montana is listed around $100k+, but they didn't have the VIN in the system to look up things so they used the number on my dealer report of sale which was substantially lower.

Folks - just a gentle reminder from your site team..

We have forum participation rules about political content for obvious reasons. DMV fees are fair game as they directly affect rvers but editorial comments about politics, how smart (or not) you think a party, politician or those that support them are affiliation are out of bounds.

Let's stay focused on rving and rving issues please.

Benton Co, TN. No income tax, property tax is just house and land (1k yr for 85ac and 1600sqft house), vehicles are about 20 bucks a year each and rv is just a few bucks more. Sales tax though is 10%.

My 2019 3700lk cost me 1900 for the 1st year. Nevada reg is based on 2% of purchase price, then slowly south from there. My 2nd year reg for the 2018 ram 3500 was $1240, we started at $1515 for year one........ Hope that helps....

My signature truck & Montana are a combined $45.00 per year and Tennessee has no income tax either.

In case someone were to start full timeing I wonder which states have the lowest overall tax rate and which have the highest. Income tax, sales tax, personal property tax.

Tennessee is for me. $250. for lifetime tags. No property tax on 5er just sales tax one time when registering. No state income and low property tax on stick and brick. 2500. Per year on 250k.

There is no free lunch. They will get you one way or another. Lived in Texas for 10 years. With Homestead Exemption property taxes were not excessive. Without HE look out. When we sold our house and registered in South Dakota the license for the 5er was higher but my insurance on vehicles dropped by over 1/3. All evens out in the long run Some places are more advantageous for a particular lifestyle

It is going to be extremely painful when you register in Nevada. Have an oxygen tank and defibrillator handy when you pay the fees!

My new 5th wheel registration this year in CA was $1,275 My truck was $800+ I keep seeing people with Montana or South Dakota plates on their trucks and 5th wheels, because they create a fake LLC in those states, and their fees are really low, and I want to do that, but my wife reminds me that we are Christians and can not cheat the system, so I too want to move out of this state someday. Heck, we are only 1 mile from the border of Nevada now where we live. I hear they are thinking of taxing us by the mile next? Heck, I don't even drive in CA most of the time we head out thru NV to go on our trips?

Washington 5er tabs (registration) $52.00 and no income tax. However the state does have one of the highest gas taxes in the country. If you happen to live in one of the parts of King, Pierce or Snohomish counties served by the Regional Transportation Authority levy you can probably multiply that cost by 10. The registration is based upon the MSRP of your vehicle.

1 mile from the border? Like Moses not being able to enter the promised land.

We are looking at Verdi area. Any thoughts on that?

Registration in California is cheaper than Nevada. Trust me I live in Nevada. DMV rapes us every year!

Take a look at the below link for good information by state. What most are complaining about is not the registration fee but the personal property tax.

I appreciate the feedback! I suppose getting raped once a year is better than every payday.

Correct the personal property tax at the DMV really hurts. But got to pay to play!
