Changing hitches

I have a Pullrite hitch non slider long bed truck and everytime I hook up I always have that uneasy feeling is it latched, the hitch wraps around the pin and yes I look to see if it has and the pull to release arm is pull in. I am thinking of going to a Anderson ball hitch I have rails so I would go to the steel hitch but when it's hooked up there is no doubt it's hooked up. The only problem I can see is the hitch is lower in the bed of the truck and harder to hook up unlike mine I can see it out the back window and I have orange lineup stripes painted on the pin box and hitch plate.
Any thoughts?

I have the hitch you are talking about. After a few times doing it I find it pretty easy to judge. FYI I really like this hitch very easy to use no chucking and lightweight.

We have the Pullrite slider, which has the same mechanism as the non-slider you have, and it is a solid hitch. If the wrap around mechanism is fully around the pin, and the release lever is in the full in position, you will not lose the trailer.

The hitch works good sometime hard to unlatch unless you park pushing against the hitch. My biggest drawback is you need to be lined up square with the hitch where the Anderson you can be on a angle.

I believe the Pullrite slide can be hitched and unhitched at a 15 degee angle.

We use the PullRite SuperLite, it also is a ball hitch.
Previously had a PullRite SuperGlide, I tired of listening to the noises from it, and the general sloppyness in the system as a whole. (adjusted properly)
New setup is so much tighter and quieter, no worries about being coupled fully.

Between the longer air pinbox and the ball mount being in the forward position we have plenty of cab clearance and a great ride.

I had this hitch worked as advertised but to heavy, to noisy, to messy and you had to be within 10 degrees and almost perfectly level to hook or unhook which got to be a pain it the butt with some camping spots so on to new technology and never looked back.
Yeh, Yeh, I know all the reasons that are just uninformed opinions.

When I said you need to be lined up as be level because you can always move the front legs on the trailer to match the truck not being level I meant the truck has to be parallel with the trailer to slide together and with the ball type being round the is not the case.

For my Andersen I got a couple magnet mount phone holders and attached them to a 12" x 12" acrylic mirror, and set the proper angle for viewing the coupler from my rear view mirror. I can put in on the pin box and see it while backing up. That way I can see when I'm directly over the ball. I also lay a stick in the bed of the truck in line with the ball so I can see my approach in the mirror.

Sounds complicated but actually quite simple and makes it easy to back up aligned and stop at the right spot to attach the hitch.

I love the Andersen for all the reasons everyone else does.

I got real lazy and bought a cheap WIFI back up camera that uses your cell phone screen as a monitor that sits on the dash, off Ebay, mounted the camera on the hitch and back her in on the first try every time. Even in the pitch dark. Lovin the AU more each trip. Try that with the wife screaming at you " Left, Left no I mean Right ,Right oh shoot I mean Left Left "

Never had any issues with the B&W companion at any angle! The 2000 turnover ball setup was much lighter to pull out in two pieces by myself.

The 2015 Ram 5th wheel prepped base is so darn heavy I have to use the engine hoist to remove it on my own. Same top as the 2000 Ram but the base almost seems over designed. Both my trucks are or were 8’ beds. I still prefer the B&W though.

I am going with the Anderson for two reasons, light weight and old age. I find myself sort of forgetting to do things from time to time, nothing serious, just old age and I can envision unhooking without dropping the levers and dumping the pin in the bed, cant do that with the Anderson.

Hitches

Installed an Andersen about two weeks ago. No chucking on previous Superglide. Serious chucking with Andersen going over bumps.

the connection from trailer to truck is a solid connection once the ball is fully seated and locked down. I have never had chucking. is your connection tight? never heard of this either...

can you define "chucking"? It just doesn't sound right. Chucking implies movement in the connection. Can't happen on the Andersen.

How's the install to the bed? Rails or ball? If the ball, which ball? Is it properly torqued?

sorry, I'm in troubleshooting mode...
