Tank heaters

Just wondering when you turn your tank heaters on and how do you know which switch goes to which tank? Thanks!

I don't have tank heaters but I would think if one of them needs to be on they should all be on.

I'd turn them on when the temp goes below freezing and stays there.

We don't have heaters, and the only concern I would have would be, how hot do they get, and is it still cool enough to not soften the ABS plastic the waste tanks are made of? I just repaired a crack in the grey tank, and was amazed at the lack of support under the tanks. I added two more braces across the frame under the tanks, and blocked under the tanks so there is support every foot. The tank plastic is not very thick and it does not surprise me that there are a number of us that have had tank failures.

Lotsa SOB's and now some Monanas have tank heaters. They are made for the application and are thermostatically controlled, so little worry about melting anything. Turn them on when you need them. I dunno about what switch goes to what without dropping some of the belly.

On my 2015 3440rl each tank is identified by name with a blue light on the switch.

I sent an email to the factory trying to determine the same thing. The intelligent answer I received was that it did not matter, if cold turn them all on. The curious part is I have 3 unlabeled switches and 4 tanks... is one unheated or does one switch control 2 tanks?

Guess the factory is right about turning them all on but a little more information and certainly labels wouldn't hurt.

Talked to a rep at Keystone. Service folks said they are not labeled because if it's cold enough to turn on tank heat, you turn them all on. Also one switch controls two tanks. The service department didn't know which switch went to which tank.

Jerry- they more than likely can't give you an answer because it all depends who is hooking up the wires and which switch they put them on. I would guess it is luck of the draw on which one goes where! LOL

My recent purchase of the 3440RL also didnt have them labeled and since it doesnt drop down into the cold teens here or below, I just made up a label to attach to the switch plate "TANK HEATERS - DONT USE".. when I picked it up from the repair center, they had flipped them all ON and when tried to raise unit to hook up, Battery dead as a doornail..

If you don't have any fresh water in the tank that you are hauling with you, but you need the heaters for the grey and black tanks, seems like you'd need to know which ones to turn on or else the heater would be heating an empty tank, which I don't think would be good for the tank or the plastic. Am I right?

I was told that one tank controlled two tanks-I believe it was a grey galley and other grey tank for the shower and bathroom.

I have three switches for the black and two gray tanks. I do not believe there is a heater on the fresh water tank.

Our switches have a label on each one identifying the tank(s) they heat. Though I think it does make sense to turn then all on if you feel the need to have any of them on.

Mine also are marked FRESH/BLACK/GREY. Would make no sense for the fresh not to have a heater, of course we are talking RV here
