Norcold 1210 Replacement
We have 2011 3400RL and it sounds like we have been very lucky with our Norcold 1210 four door fridge until now. Phoned a rv repair person yesterday asked him to order me a cooling system and he said to costly just go get a residential fridge and save yourself a lot of problems. Today I have been scanning fridge information trying to find a good residential replacement. With a 28" door and a 24" shallow fridge compartment its hard to find.
I have heard that a lot of Montana 3400RL owners have replaced for residential fridges and would like to know if there is any advice for us.
Thank You Oldbro.

My 2019 has a Samsung and I know 2021 they arrive with a GE. I'll have to measure and look for the model #.

First thing you need to do is check to see if you have any interference issues when the slide is retracted. On our 3800re our island was too close to where the bottom freezer drawer handle would be. If you don't have this issue, then it is just a matter of doing the enclosure work to fit a residential fridge. All cabinet depth fridges that i saw were in the 28 inch plus range for overall depth including doors and handles. I did all the work needed to move my fridge enclosure a few inches towards the rear to allow me to use the samsung 18 cuft fridge.

Thank You John and Patty. That was very good information. I did measure everywhere but did not consider the slide in. So again thank You. Elaine and Terry.

If you do a Search here on something like "refer replacement" you should find older posts where members have done this. I am pretty sure some of the posts list models but they may be obsolete by now.

There is also the option of converting the fridge to a 12 volt DC or 120 volt AC compressor type fridge. This would eliminate the concern about what would fit in the space. https://jc-refrigeration.com/product...y/hvac/page/2/

Not only is there a compressor option but also a helium cooled option. Not all res fridge installations are easy with clearance issues if you have a full counter rather then an island. I've measured ours JIC and it would be a tight fit. Additionally current Samsung's are not all the best quality we have found at our house with the service man telling us to find some other brand if we were to replace it.

Hello,
It could be my Norcold 4 door will need replacing soon as well. I have a '16 3791. Does the slide have to come out to remove the old and install the new? I surely don't see them going thru the door.
Thank you!

We installed a Haier Residential Fridge, counter top depth and it works like a charm. It's hooked up to a 1000 watt Magnum inverter that is always on for just the Refrigerator and a CPAP. The fridge only uses 1 to 2 amps when it has a demand for power. It fit perfectly on the existing hole. Model # HRQ16N3BGS, 16.4 CU. ft. 32.8" x 26.2" x 71"

Check out the compressor 12v or 120 v replacement cooling unit from jcrefrigeration.com. They also list the pricing on the web page. These are better built than a residential fridge and made for RV’s. As long as you are happy with the size and box of your current fridge, you can turn it into compressor driven unit. I did my Dometic POS and thrilled with how it performs on 12v. Fridge maintains 35-37 degrees in 100+ degree heat. Freezer at -10. Ice cream rock hard and beer cold. Fast temp recovery and cool down. Didn’t have to use an inverter and no propane while traveling. Fridge runs off TV until you plug in to shore power. Didn't have to deal with fitting a new fridge into existing fridge space. Check them out first before taking the plunge for a residential fridge.

There is an outfit in Shipshewana, IN that will replace the back components on your original unit. Their name is JC Refrigeration, www.jc-refrigeration.com.

Have a look at the Haier counterdepth options. That is what we used in ours and it fit beautifully.

We have a 2015 3710fl. Replaced with a 18 cu ft Whirlpool from Lowes. It was necessary to do minor finishing trim. If I could figure out how to insert a photo I’d show it.

We are thinking about replacing our Dometic 1350. Checked out the Everchill 17cuft as a perfect replacement then found the Norcold Polar Elite N15DC 15 cuft and it is more of direct replacement as the size is closer to the stock opening and it has an ice maker option.
12V compressor fridges are the way to go.

You are correct that the 12 volt compressor models are the way to go. You can just replace your cooling unit in your current fridge box for less money. Check out jc-refrigeration.com. Prices are on the webpage. I have one and it works great!
