A Tail of Two Campgrounds
We have now been in three campgrounds with the High Park fire in Colorado. Two have been KOA's and one is a private campground (not a chain). The Lakeside KOA in Fort Collins is a very nice/albeit high priced CG. They have a policy that you may not park cars around your campsite other than tow vehicles. I ran afoul of the owner when I explained that I thought their policy for evacuees was not very compassionate for people who had all of their possessions in their vehicle after being evacuated. The owner responded "good, leave", followed by "you guys are idiots". They would not even give us an extra 15 minutes to get my Polaris Ranger out of there. I had to unhook the trailer, tow the Ranger to a local store and then come back and pull the Montana out.
Western Ridge Campground in Livermore, Colorado is a small family owned CG about 20 minutes west of Livermore on 74e. It has a good restaurant and great sky watching at night. Cheryl, the owner, would have allowed evacuees to stay for free. We paid full price, because she's on the evacuation standby also.
KOA in Wellington seems to be okay. They are not as strict, but we still would prefer Western Ridge.
