fresh water hose

ok,,here i go again,,,overthinking as per usual??.....

i always make sure my fresh water hose is drained and dry before i store it.
i coil and couple the ends and throw it in the fresh water tote for storage.

since the rv is in storage since its last use in late october till our next trip south in late january, should i sanitize this fresh water hose before our trip?

thanx in advance

Guess I am not a thinker. Never have bothered to sanitize. I just connect the two ends, throw in the storage compartment and call it a day.

Yeah that's all I do too. I probably should do more, but I don't. Now in the spring when I open up the camper and unwinterize it I'll run quite a bit through it before we ever drink from it.

I do the same thing but I run about a gallon of water through it before hooking it up in the wet bay.

When I sanitize our freshwater tank and pipes, I connect the freshwater hose to the rig, then pour a cup of bleach into the hose, then connect it to the faucet and fill the freshwater tank, water heater and all the pipes. I let it sit for 24 hours then drain and flush out the system.
The bleach in the freshwater fill hose will take care of sanitizing that hose.

I agree with Daryles approach.

Thinking back to my youth and the things I drank water out of without a thought of cleanliness...has to be part of the way my immunities were built up. The bigger danger in Texas summers was the water being too hot and might burn the mouth. Maybe the heat sanitized the "supply line/hose/pipe/trough/pond/lake/creek"??? Yuk!

Here in west Kentucky we put our water lines 36" under ground so they don't freeze. On a side note in the summer the water is cool too.

We get a new hose every year and use the old one for the black flush. We live in our camper for about 5 months a year.

I usually sanitize it if it has sat a while. Can't hurt.

I drain the hose while coiling it after every use. I screw in ventilated end caps, then stick it in the bin for next use. I run water through when using it next.

I only santized the tank on first use of the RV 5 years ago. We rarely use water out of the water tank, we camp 95% of the time with full hookup. I leave the tank drain open and run water through until it comes out every time I hook up to flush the hose, line, filter, etc. We don't drink water out of the tank. We use a Brita filter for ice, coffee, etc., with full hookup.

I don’t sanitize but I know of a guy that drank out of a water hose and got poisoned from the bacteria. So maybe sanitizing might not be a bad idea.

I typically use Sodium Dichlor granules to sanitize my water system once per year. You can buy it at any pool chemical or hot tub place. Very cheap and much less messy and caustic than bleach and easier to store. I put about 1 table spoon in my hose then fill my fresh tank.
Sanitizes the hose while filling. Easy peasy.
